@JesusSaves1500 You’re still reading an abridged bible and it’s never not gonna be funny to watch verse slinging as if the people who understood purgatory to be an integral part of the faith never read them before. Pick up a real bible with all the books in it and get back to me. Or don’t.

There is no purgatory. This obliterates the concept. Notice: they immediately go to their final destinations and there is a GREAT CHASM. 22 The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried, 23 and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side. 24 And he called out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in anguish in this flame.’ 25 But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner bad things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish. 26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us.’

No. Maccabees is not Canon and for good reason. The reality is that, at the point of death, one’s eternal destiny is confirmed. Either he is saved through faith in Christ and is in heaven where he is experiencing rest and joy in God’s presence, or he is in torment in hell. The story of the rich man and Lazarus the beggar provides us with a vivid illustration of this truth. Jesus plainly used this story to teach that after death the unrighteous are eternally separated from God, that they remember their rejection of the gospel, that they are in torment, and that their condition cannot be remedied (Luke 16:19-31).

Are you praying for the dead? It is therefore a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead, that they may be loosed from sins. (2 Mc 12:46)

@OperHealAmerica There’s nothing particularly special about an ancient writer attributing an illness to a demon and having his object of worship heal that.

@hookskat That wasn’t Satan, that was ha’Satan, God’s prosecutor. He doesn’t become a personal devil until after Zoroastrianism creeps in.

God betrayed Job more than satan betrayed god. Satan kept his word and didn't kill Job, but god let Satan destroy Job’s life, family and health.

@GodlyAction ~ the oldest books go back further but generally it’s a good estimate ~ or 65, 73, 79, 83. Protestant traditions don’t own the canon ~ More than that, for some books whole schools of thought are involved. There are 3 Isaiahs. John’s gospel is a communal work. ~ dozens

@MistyBluefla He would most certainly agree with that. “I am a sinner, but I trust in the infinite mercy and patience of our Lord Jesus Christ, and I accept in a spirit of penance.” - Pope Francis (August 19, 2013)

@rawsalerts They’re just bringing it inline with the other service branches (AF, Navy, Space Force, and Coast Guard have been 41 or 42 since the early 2020s, the Marine Corps is still 28).

@lx_amara He will stand before God and in the unfiltered presence of God's holiness have his sins revealed & excised in the same way the body excises a disease. It will be a painful process of unknown duration. When its over Leonid will enter into the Beatific Vision and that endless joy.

I can feel nothing but sadness for this man. This is someone God loves, someone Christ died for. Yet the legacy he leaves is being responsible for creating and ubiquitizing such a demonic industry. He now must face his Creator and give an account for his life. All those billions are useless now. What shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his soul? My hope is that he somehow had a chance to truly repent and turn to Christ before he died.

@OperHealAmerica 1) Mary needed a savior 2) Mary, like Eve was created without sin, but unlike Eve, did not sin 3) For salvific purposes Jesus is the only mediator, he is not the only intercessor. 4) Revelation shows the angels bringing the prayers of the saints to God 5) why do you care?

You do know that Mary is not sinless and also needed a Savior, right; and that baptism is not a requirement for salvation, and that Jesus (not a priest) is the ONLY mediator between God and man for the forgiveness of sin, right? See Romans 3:23, Titus 3:5-6, and 1 Timothy 2:5.

@TWGlobalEccl If you was to be pedantic, no, he never uses that phrase. But he does call the church "The Israel of God" (Galatians 6:16). He also says in Romans 11 that the church is grafted onto the olive tree that is Israel. And also say “not all Israel is Israel”.

@farmingandJesus So in summation, the distinction is intent. Worship (reserved for God) involves treating a person as a divine source of power. Honor (commanded for elders) is a recognition of their God-given role, wisdom, and labor.

@farmingandJesus Elders who lead and teach well are considered "worthy of double honor" (1 Timothy 5:17). Believers are told to "acknowledge those who work hard among you... and to esteem them very highly in love because of their work" (1 Thessalonians 5:12–13).
