In 2023 the competition rate for UK Orthopaedic ST3 interviews was 3.0:1. This means that for every 3.0 applicants, 1 was successfully appointed to a registrar post. 72% of those who applied were interviewed and 46% of those interviewed were successfully appointed.

One time a patient suddenly kissed my hand while I was molding his splint but I’m sure this totally happens to male orthopods all the time, right? (Not like a light, polite, chivalrous kiss on the hand, but full open-mouth, made-me-very-uncomfortable kiss)

Merry Christmas to all those working in the NHS today Many staff in the NHS are grossly underpaid (even on Christmas day👇) but none more so than Junior Doctors who frequently graduate with >£100k debt RT to support them & ask government to pay them ALL fairly #PayRestoration

Consent ✅ Runner, post marathon Severe, disabling lateral knee pain at rest, night & focal swelling Preceded by anterolateral retropatella pain MRI - very impressive ITB inflammation 👀👀, mild effusion Also lateral patella offset / tilt & Hoffa's fat pad oedema Thoughts on pathobiomechanical relationship between ITBCS & PFP? We know ITB has slips to lateral retinaculum... Or simply both common overload conditions rearing their heads simultaneously? 🧐

I submitted an FOI request to the GMC asking them about the tax they pay. Turns out, the GMC do not pay tax. They class doctors' fees as charity. They take £500/yr from doctors, pay zero tax on it, and use it to give their staff £250k salaries and private healthcare.

Every single word Andrew says is factual and he expresses the sense of despair so many of us on the frontline feel… This govt do not deserve to be guardians of our NHS! Pls RT the hell out of this!

If someone rolls a pair of dice you can’t predict which number will come up but you can absolutely predict the long-term average results and how the average will shift if someone loads the dice.
Hugh Osmond@hughosmond

Matt goes to the heart of it. With current measurement technology and state-of-the-art computers it is still impossible to predict the weather more than a few days ahead. Yet these same people, with the same technology, think they can model long term climate change. They can't.

So much smearing & belittling of consultants in the press, but this, from today’s @thetimes letters page, could not have put it more beautifully. Pls RT if you agree. #NHS 💙

We have revoked the derogation granted to Weston General Hospital. It has become apparent that both the BMA and NHS England were misled over the level of staffing cover. Either local management were unaware they had sufficient senior cover, or they deliberately misled us.
The BMA@TheBMA

As part of the junior doctors strike action, we have agreed to a derogation today (Tues 11 April) and tomorrow (Weds 12 April) to cover the Emergency Department and acute medicine at Weston General Hospital. 1/3
