My son has proclaimed he’s a christian & it is lowkey killing his atheist father
English

@OrthoRedneck Duh- I’m saying orthodox people are in the spotlight. that helps Orthodoxy grow.

@KingMic92357513 Agreed it is all to similar to cherry picking scripture.

Quotes and Quote mines should be relegated to positive things. Things that bring us closer to God. Spiritually edifying things. Not Theology in debates on Twatter. Unless one has read an entire work (the source of the quote), one shouldn't be quoting the person they are quoting, and before even quoting them, they should be asking their priest or spiritual father if they understood the writing/quote correctly.
Quote mining causes issues.

I'm utterly convinced that this account is nothing more than a grift at this point. Perhaps it started out as having a meaningful direction but with the amount of engagement it receives through negative means it's fairly obvious.

Thank God for the Reformation
English

@Fedupmichael @SyriunRavage @JoshuaBarzon If sola sciptura is the final authority and the Church fathers can't be trusted isn't that contradictory considering the Church fathers were the ones who agreed on what scripture was to be canonized?
Bewildering.....
English

@OrthoRedneck @SyriunRavage @JoshuaBarzon Yeah sola scriptura defeats itself on face. The bible says to follow both the oral and written. It also says to follow tradition. I love your point about the preacher too. Most aren't actually sola but what paster Bob preached last Sunday
English

@OrthoMemeSquad Isn't it the Orthodox standard that if the laity overwhelming recognize an individual as a Saint they're typically canonized. Please correct me if this assumption is wrong.

I wasn’t raised in it. I chose it. And yes, I’ve seen things you’ve already decided can’t exist.
Quantity of ‘gods’ doesn’t disprove truth. By that logic, truth doesn’t exist at all.
You confuse lack of evidence with lack of understanding: If your standard is "I haven’t seen it", then most of reality doesn’t exist for you.
Vast space doesn’t disprove God. It only shows your expectations are childish;
..
You’re not arguing, you’re stacking cliches and calling it thinking.

The Great Miracle of the Airplane Rescue by Saint lakovos, as narrated by the Greek passenger:
"During one of my trips to New York, the airplane was struck by lightning.
The cockpit windshield cracked.
We were flying at 37,000 feet.
We were falling.
I didn't have time to say the Our Father. I pulled out two small icons from my pocket.
My Saint David..
My Elder Saint lakovos, help us.
We are dying...
Then, I saw Him through the window.
Saint Elder lakovos was flying beside me. His cassock was fluttering in the fierce wind. He was holding the airplane with His hands. He landed it. When we all disembarked, safe and unharmed, no one could believe it."

English

@goinggodward Not enough context to make an accurate assessment. This might be a numbskull parishioners who needs a steady hand or the priest fumbled when tenderness was warranted. Either way God knows.
English

Today’s sermon included a brief story about a young man who expressed to his priest that he was struggling to say the Nicene Creed because he didn’t believe in the virgin birth.
The priest’s response: “Nobody cares what you believe. You’re going to be dead in 60-70 years, and Christians are going to believe in the virgin birth like they have for 2000 years and will continue long after you’re gone.”
English

Sola Scriptura makes little to no sense to me in the context it's used today. Global literacy didn't break 50% until roughly the 1950's. So how was scripture taught?
They deny Oral Tradition yet they're own history clearly had to utilize it because people simply could not read.
I think moreso what bothers me is because I use to be in that sphere, any questioning of what they perceive or believe is seen as an affront rather than a correction of error made out of love and concern.
On one side of the coin they'll question the Church Fathers and verifiable accounts of Church History.
Yet the moment you question what their pastor instilled in them thst take offense.
English

@OrthoRedneck @SyriunRavage @JoshuaBarzon Very true and I feel the same. I tell people all the time I have learned to humble myself and why would I think I know better than the church fathers who some learned directly from the apostles and others that figured out the biblical cannon. Sola scriptura is the arrogance.
English

I answered his question in good faith and in a very direct manner. And countered with my own. Instead of answering those questions he dodged them and asked subsequent questions.
This tactic is disingenuous because he already has his own preconceived response to refute anything I may say.
If he genuinely wanted to know the answers to these questions and perhaps more he may have. He would make due diligence to seek them out in an unbiased manner.
He doesn't seek Truth he seeks argument for the sake of argument or to play gotcha games. It's through Orthodoxy I've recognized my own egosim so it's easier to spot it in others.
English

@OrthoRedneck @SyriunRavage @JoshuaBarzon Its the fall back arguement. They deny apostolic succession means anything and then make up they have it which makes no sense. Ive dealt with like 100 clones of this guy and they all end up on my block list as liars.
English

Ok but why?
Whether a few hundred or 10s of thousands, if the gates of hell can not prevail against the Church then why would a reformation even be necessary?
Furthermore if indeed one was necessary why did it break into even greater factions with various understandings of doctrines?
Wouldn't this create confusion as it has?
English

Would it honestly matter what answer I gave you? You would counter it with whatever preconceived perception you already harbor. Your not asking out of a sincere desire to learn your asking from a position with intent to discredit or refute anything and everything I say.
At this point I'm just curious if the one your trying to convince is more yourself than me.
Either way this exercise is one of futility because neither of us will sway the other to their own beliefs.
English

@OrthoRedneck @Fedupmichael @JoshuaBarzon Especially when Catholics claim the same thing about Apostolic Succession whom… according to Orthodoxy, believe that Catholics have been incorrect on a number of doctrines.
English

@OrthoRedneck @Fedupmichael @JoshuaBarzon Why do you think, every Church but yours falls into religious trap of the Pharisees but yours?
Your answer: I can join names, like dots in history.
How does that make your church infallible? When others make the same claim.
English

@OrthoRedneck @Fedupmichael @JoshuaBarzon Did the power of the Apostles transfer to those you consider Apostles?
If not, why does it matter then?
Technically all Protestants can draw a line of Apostolic succession. Who are you to deny their Apostles?
What does Apostolic succession give beyond a claim for credibility?
English

@SyriunRavage @Fedupmichael @JoshuaBarzon Apostolic succession, which Faith has remained the same unchanged since before the first council? How do you believe that was made possible?
English

@OrthoRedneck @Fedupmichael @JoshuaBarzon Why do you think Pharisees make this mistake, Catholics make this mistake, Protestants make this mistake but Orthodoxy has never made this mistake?
