Some people read this as earthquake prediction so just to clear things up for people: This. Is. Not. Earthquake. Prediction. This guy has a habit of making correct "predictions" by a mixture of clever analysis, being vague and getting lucky. I'll break down how he got this one.

@habahurhahu @WeirdMedieval Not necessarily. There were other languages throughout Europe that weren't Indo-European (for example the Tyrsenian languages in Italy, including Etruscan, or Basque which obviously still exists); they had to take into account the possibility that it was an isolate.

@WeirdMedieval It's completely ridiculous that nobody else thought of this before. I mean, if a language is spoken in southwestern Anatolia and the northern Levant, and it doesn't match Semitic languages, it's obviously Indo-European. Why are we this dumb?

It's pretty cool that the guy who deciphered the 3,000 year old Hittite language basically did it by going "waddaar....sounds like water" "nu....sounds like now" "eizzateni.....sounds like essen, the German word for eat" Published a complete Hittite grammar two years later
