A 9x-4x recruiting result, one could say.

@DaddyBalkanBrad @RobbyNardini @ArmchairIllini The most outstanding player in the final 4 was Michigan’s point guard
English

You’re only as good as your point guard play.

Illinois just needs to shore up the guard situation

@matthewwinick @basket_review He was certainly praised by the coaching staff early because they had seen him in action, but to call Wagler “highly-touted” is to completely miss the story. Plus Brad praises all his guys. I think I even read somewhere where he compared Brandon Lee to Andres Feliz.

New for @basket_review:
I dive deep into Illinois for our Final Four series. On the team's fascinating four groups of offensive roles, Underwood's defensive philosophy shift, and how it matches up with UConn.

I’ve watched it many times.
Santa Clara’s coach didn’t even try to call time out until Kentucky had the ball.
He wasn’t robbed. This is just silly.
Please stop.

@bradluttrell *10 seed. I forgot that the cats weren’t even good enough to earn the 11 seed.
English

@bradluttrell This is now where Kentucky basketball resides. Desperate fans making up their own facts to justify the break they needed to beat an 11 seed in the first round game. I love it!!!

@notgaetti @Brewers @theaceofspaeder @JessicaDBrand @orwellian @BigLeagueDigest @OleTimeHardball @JoseCanseco @ryanripkenshow @TheWARmonger_ @WillClark22 When Rob Deer and Ron Darling talk on the phone, do you think they refer to one another by their first names or last names?
English

Not enough people talk about Rob Deer
• .220/.324/.442 (.766 OPS), 109 OPS+
• 230 HR, 600 RBI, 11 MLB seasons
• Reached 20 HR 8x, 80 RBI 3x
• 4x MLB strikeout leader
• Real feast-or-famine hitter
• 32 HR, 84 RBI, 198 K per 162
• Never played in the postseason
• Did his best work with Milwaukee
• (Also played for DET, BOS, SFG, SD)
• Top B-R Similarity Score: Joc Pederson
• He would be a $200 million player today
• Over an 8-year span from 1986-93, Rob Deer hit the 6th-most home runs in baseball, trailing only five of the greatest power hitters of all time and coming in ahead of some of the most iconic players of his era

Bruce Pearl is the worst character that college basketball has seen in this generation @clubtrillion

Self inherited a team from Kruger that was #8 preseason before he ever coached a single game. He took that team to a one-seed but they were upset by Arizona in the Elite Eight. #8 preseason, Elite Eight, that was fine.
We were then ranked #3 preseason in 2002 and a national title was the goal. We climbed as high as #2 but then stumbled through the rest of season and fell to a 4-seed, losing to Kansas in the Sweet 16. The "Self can't win in the Tournament" noise began.
The next year was the worst Tournament loss, a Round-of-32 exit to 5-seed Notre Dame. After that loss, on a fledgling message board called IlliniBoard, the Self noise was overwhelming. "This is a coach who can challenge for and win conference titles but he will never win in the Tournament", everyone screamed.
It was wrong then -- Self was, indeed, an amazing coach and I wish he would have stayed forever -- and it's wrong now. It is a critical eye taken too far. An emotional hedge dressed up as a "standard" to be met.

@ALionEye "and, yes, Bill Self when he was here" - Ummmm, no. Self took the 2001 team to the Elite 8 in his first year. He then had what looked to be a Top 5 team when he jumped ship. People were devastated when he left
