“I live just around the corner from Peel Memorial, so it’s always been part of my life. I was born here in 1997—delivered by Dr. Martino, who today leads Osler as President and CEO. Years later, I still remember being a kid with a sprained arm, walking through its doors and meeting Dr. Martino again. My dad’s story began here too: he was born at Peel Memorial. For 100 years, families like mine have turned to Peel Memorial in moments that matter most. This year, as we celebrate a century of care, I’m reminded that this place is more than a hospital—it’s the heart of Brampton, where compassion and care have passed from one generation to the next. Now we have the chance to be part of history and create the next 100-year legacy. The new Peel Memorial will become Brampton’s second hospital, with a 24/7 Emergency Department and new inpatient beds—an incredible step forward for our city. For me, this is personal. Now, as I prepare to welcome my first child, I want them to grow up with the same reassurance I’ve always had: that world-class care is right here in our community. Hospitals aren’t built by government alone. They’re built by communities—by people who believe in acting today to build a healthier tomorrow. People like you.” -Anisten Dunsmore, Proud Peel Memorial Patient Make 2X the impact! Every dollar you give right now will be DOUBLED. Together, we can create a lasting legacy for Brampton’s health care. Make your gift today: ow.ly/Kqh450YsWWj

On behalf of Osler and Osler Foundation, it is with immense sadness that we share the difficult news that Ken Mayhew, President and CEO, Osler Foundation, has passed away. Ken had a remarkable ability to connect with people at every level and took the time to truly listen, to learn and to recognize the meaningful contributions of others. He was an extraordinary advocate for health care in the communities we serve and brought heart and purpose to everything he did. In recognition of his impact on his country and community, Ken received many honours and awards including the prestigious King Charles III Coronation Medal, Fundraiser of the Year from the Greater Toronto and Golden Horseshoe chapters of AFP, and a Paul Harris Fellow, to name just a few. His career is profiled in Peter Mansbridge’s book How Canada Works – The People Who Make Our Nation Thrive. Our heartfelt condolences are with Ken’s family, friends and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. As we grieve this tremendous loss, we will also honour the legacy he leaves behind. He will be greatly missed.

@OslerHealth @patientombuds that’s so lovely for Wei Song! What about when your endocrinologist requests an MRI for a complex matter involving the adrenals and pituitary gland and the radiologist at Etobicoke General Hospital overrides the requisition and REFUSES TO PROVIDE A NECESSARY MRI???

For Beatrice Kahenya, NP in Osler's Sickle Cell Disease Clinic, education and advocacy are essential in treating patients with Sickle Cell Disease, most of whom are of African descent. "Honestly, it has been one of the most humbling experiences of my career. I’ve worked with people from all backgrounds but working with this community has been especially meaningful. Getting to hear my patients’ stories and seeing their daily struggles has really opened my eyes. I can’t pretend to walk in my patients’ shoes, but I can relate to some of the challenges they face from a racial-cultural perspective." Read more: bit.ly/4rqzaSh #BlackHistoryMonth

Happy #ValentinesDay 💙 Bobby Chadda and Kevin Dalgliesh met as young respiratory therapists in 1998. Years later they reconvened their working relationship at Osler... this time as anaesthesia assistances AND husband and wife "We were the last two standing respiratory therapists at Wellesley Hospital in Toronto before it closed. We got married in 2002. A few years later, we learned about a new program at the Michener Institute to study to become anaesthesia assistants. Kevin was in the first cohort and I was in the second. In 2008, Kevin joined me at Osler, where we helped build and grow the Anaesthesia Assistant program at Osler. We recruited respiratory therapists and the team grew — many of these amazing colleagues are still with us today. When it comes to working together, we have opposite personalities and both bring different strengths. We call on one another and look at each other as a resource."

@OslerHealth Not quite sure what happened upon discharging me from EGH today but I did not get my discharge paperwork and I still have the pads from the heart test on me. Quite a different experience than what I had last month for a migraine (today it was a concussion)

Today is International Day of Women and Girls in Science. “It's very empowering working as an all-women team, especially in oncology research, where collaboration, trust and diverse perspectives directly impact how we study and deliver complex cancer care. Working together has strengthened our ability to ask meaningful clinical questions and translate data into practice change." Meet the T-Cell Engager Therapy Research team, whose trailblazing research is focused on improving symptoms for patients who experience adverse effects during their treatment for hematologic malignancies and small-cell lung cancer. #WomenInScience

Last week, we celebrated the launch of #BlackHistoryMonth at Osler. Under the theme 'Building Inclusion Through Access, Belonging and Collaboration', we welcomed participants, both in-person and online to come together, reflect and engage in conversations centered on inclusion, equity and community. We heard from Racquel Bremmer, Clinical Director of the Black Health and Social Services Hub, Osler nurse practitioner Beatrice Kahenya. And a very special thanks to our Keynote Speaker Ingrid Palmer, Principal IDEAL Advocate, for sharing her personal experiences and inspiring work with our Osler community.
