@Netcare_Limited Alberton, I saw my attending doctor at 9pm last night for the first time since Saturday. She didn’t even review my case properly 🚮 I feel neglected. I feel like I am being held hostage… just discharge me so I can go to a better hospital that wants to treat me.

Sometimes, hormonal disorders cause galactorrhea: a spontaneous discharge of milk from the breast. Generally, this condition results when there is an excess of the hormone prolactin, which stimulates milk production. The causes of hormonal imbalance may include:
• Prescription drugs-antidepressants, antipsychotics, and even some blood pressure medications raise levels of this hormone.
• Thyroid problems-people with hypothyroidism, an underactive thyroid, may affect the overall hormone regulation.
• Pituitary gland problems: Prolactin-secreting tumors-often benign-develop within the pituitary gland. • Stress: Sometimes, physical or emotional stress may disrupt hormone levels. • Pregnancy or breast-feeding: Though rare, after pregnancy, the hormone levels may remain high and continue to Milk production. Treatment options 1. Treatment of the underlying cause: Treatment of the underlying cause, including thyroid malfunction or a pituitary gland tumor, may return hormonal levels to normal. 2. Medication: For prolactin secretion, medications known as dopamine agonists may be prescribed. Examples include bromocriptine and cabergoline.
3. Lifestyle changes: These include reducing stress, controlling diet, and regulating hormones through adequate sleep.
4. Surgery: Prolactinomas and other forms of tumors affecting the pituitary do require surgery.
It is always best to consult a doctor for a thorough diagnosis to ascertain the cause and recommend proper treatment for individual conditions.
