March 20th 2351. Gul Lenor takes command of Empok Nor. Unlike her Bajoran Sector sister station. Empok Nor would not see ANY Bajorans housed there. Instead Empok Nor used Cardassian Slave Labour. It was also home to Cardassians Biological Military Research Program, which took willing and not so willing Cardassian subjects and perform experiments on them. Like with Terok Nor. The central command turned a blind eye to conditions on Empok Nor. Considering those sent there had no personal rights what-so-ever.

Six months of operations at both Terok Nor and Empok Nor quickly leads to a financial boom on Cardassia. The Ferengis, Orions, Klingons and Nausicaans all seek trade deals with Cardassia, who are selling the ore processed on the two Nor stations at a very cheap price, in a move that doesn't sure up profit margins overnight. But guarantees a steady demand from customers.

Gul Dukat does not make friends easily. Three months into active operations. Three Cardassian Warships arrive at Terok Nor to size command of the station and to put a new overseer in place. Gul Dasal of the second order feels he has more experience and would be the best choice for Dukat's job. The battle for Terok Nor begins and when reenforces come to Dasal's aid. The station looks doomed. However, Dukat, who was planning for such a move to happen, calls upon his cousin Macet and few other loyal ships that are in the Bajoran sector. The station and IT's reinforcements drive Dasal's fleet away. Dukat remains in power. The central command is informed and Dukat, pleased with his cousin's loyalty. Promotes him to Gul and places him in charge of a new Sector Defence force. To stop this from ever happening again.

On the March 11th 2351 (Earth Calendar) Terok Nor official becomes operational. Gul Dukat orders troops from the third, eleventh and fourteen fleets to be deployed to the station, before ordering a large number (no accurate information on file) of Bajorans up to the station for work detail. Two weeks later it's sister station Empok Nor goes online. Chief Military Adviser Gul Maro publicly calls it "The year of the Nor"

In 2345 the central command announced it's short list for the prefect of Bajor and commander of Terok Nor job. Dal Skrain G. Dukat and Glinn Akellen Macet. Both had stellar careers and proven themselves well during the occupation. However, while Macet was had very little command experience, Dukat had firsthand experience of Bajor and the occupation. In 2346, as Terok Nor enter phase three of construction and was declared liveable in. Legate Danig Kell overseer of the occupation. Give Dukat (his first officer) the post of Overseer of Bajor and Commander of Terok Nor. Dukat reportedly celebrated by humiliating his cousin Macet by giving him command of a Cardassian boarder cruiser and assigning it to stop and search operation along the edge of the Bajoran sector. Talk about family love.

In 2346 after a leaked memorandum found it's way to the United Federation of Planets. The Cardassian Government officially confirmed that they had started construction on a space station in the Bajoran system. This is the first recorded documented use of the name "Terok Nor". Starfleet records state this is when construction had reportedly begun. However in fact, Teork Nor was about 60% completed by 2346. It wouldn't be until the full of Cardassia after the Dominion War, that official classified records surrounding Terok Nor's consturction was found.

I am guessing not. The information came from a Beta Canon Comic. So take it with a pinch of salt. But it does explain why we have only ever seen two of these and why Empok Nor was the second one to be built after DS9. The other Cardassian stations we have seen look nothing like DS9 or her sideways sister.

In 2342. Work began on constructing a Cardassian orbital ore processing complex in orbit of Bajor. The station's construction was the first recorded project of Cardassian and Bajoran joint operations (Even if the Bajorans were there by force). Kotan Darek, the designer and overseer of the project, used the famous, imprisoned Bajoran architect Charna Sar to fully realize the design of the station. Both Cardassian and Bajoran workers were forced to work round the clock to get the space station completed and operations as quickly as possible.

In 2344 a Bajoran Resistance Cell attempted to blow up the space station in orbit of Bajor by planting a plasma fusion pack into a yet to be closed conduit. The blast ripped through parts of the habitat ring, but unfortunately, the blast was not large enough to inflict any catastrophic damage to the station. Also it did not affect the stations construction work in anyway. Member of the cell that planted the bomb did not escape in time. With all of them being "shown the airlock" for their crimes.

@anonfmresident Same as they are used on Earth, but more as a backup for if antigravity equipment and magnetic boats failed. There was such a push to get the project completed QUICKLY, that the Central Command demanded that a backup plan was in place for if tec failed.
