I cannot stand Starmer but this should ring alarms with everyone. We cannot have some weirdo billionaire in another country determine who should be the UK's PM. The UK is a democracy; not some vessel state of the USA.

A massive percentage of the immigrants arriving in the UK in recent years are foreign students.
Foreign students contribute tens of billions into the economy and like all immigrants l have zero recourse to any public funds then they leave.
They are a net benefit.

These conversations get really annoying because the home office is the only government agency that makes a profit - basically recorded ~£0.5 billion in 2024 in surplus.

Any conversations around immigration in the UK needs to be fact based and policy focused - not anecdotal. If your town seems like it’s aging poorly, you should probably ask your government what they are doing with our taxes.

Between 09/24 - 09/25 the UK issued 839k long-term visas (52% study, 21% work, 12% asylum, 8% family).
Students pay >£30k a year in tuition and housing costs on top of the £4,000 visa fees (also paid by workers) BEFORE entry. Workers pay tax, NI, and live by strict visa rules.
