Back in 2017, @ESPNcricinfo ran a contest to find the #HyundaiCricJockey. I merely won a consolation prize for my efforts but my audio clip was uploaded onto YouTube by Cricinfo !!! Here is my 60 seconds of infamy - youtu.be/JymJrAbfwNY

Much like players, there could be a time in the future when umpires might shun international cricket to fill their coffers with T20 league money ! Umpires pay in INR (4 lakh/Test, 2.5 lakh/ODI & 1.25 lakh/T20I IPL fee : 3 lakh/game ! deccanherald.com/sports/cricket…

@Indikadesaram @kartik_kannan Definitely underrated and pitiably not valued enough. Not many in the history of the game have opened the batting and bowling on a regular basis for their national teams across formats like Prabhakar. India today would walk on water to get an all-rounder like him !

@PABadami @kartik_kannan He did all the hard yards for the team partly cause he was brave enough & also cause many of his team mates shirked away from challenges. Team combination also enabled it. He's under rated tbh.

For a very long time in the late 90’s I wondered why was was Manoj Prabhakar abandoned after one shellacking at Kotla. He was a genuine premier all rounder who could bat at the top, open the bowling and swing the ball. How could he be dropped after one bad game at his home ground? When I look back and connect the dots, I am wondering whether it was the following A) Opener- In an era where where Mark Waugh and Sachin Tendulkar were openers and were exploiting the 15 over rule for batting quick and long, Prabhakar’s anchoring was going out of fashion. Interestingly SL had openers striking way above 100, and India’s strategy with Prabhakar felt dated all off a sudden. Year : Bat Avg : SR 1993 : 30.7 : 58.2 1994 : 41.6 : 62.1 1995: 32.5 : 60.5 1996: 3.5 : 30.5 B) Rise of newer and fitter pacers. With experience Prabhakar’s ER remained the same, but his striking ability never reached elite levels. He was taking a wicket every 45 balls through 1993-1995 and it reached 114 in 1996. Srinath was striking every 39 balls and Prasad was striking every 41 balls. Globally Waqar was striking at 25 balls while other top bowlers were between 35-38 balls. Also these other top bowlers went under 4 an over while Prabhakar went for 4.4 runs an over. Maybe being dismantled in Delhi wasn’t a one off, but a sign that the game had outpaced him. Maybe he was a 80’s style all-rounder in the new 90’s world. When swing faded away, maybe he did not have the pace to make a difference, and also maybe not the swashbuckling opener that the world was moving towards. He had probably become average and not a top 10 batter or bowler by 1996 What did you make of Manoj Prabhakar?

One of cricket’s rarest sights, Manoj Prabhakar delivers a toe-crushing yorker to Mark Greatbatch, sending all three stumps flying out of the ground.🔥🤯

Yes, he scored 42 off 29 (3 fours and a six) Smashed Donald for a six and four off consecutive balls before getting out. Despite being the all rounder he was the third highest scorer (after Azhar and Tendulkar) for India in the tournament.

@CricketopiaCom I remember this. Kapil Dev played a very aggressive knock. If my memory is right he hit Allan Donald all over the park before he got out to him.

@bhogleharsha 'Legends' is another superlative that has been moderated due to gross overuse and misuse. There is no premium on adjectives in the contemporary world !

Notice there is a new "legends" league round every corner. Obviously my English teacher at school didn't teach me well enough because we grew up thinking legends are very rare and extraordinarily distinguished people.

One of his most bland knocks, where he slowed down towards the end. One such wickets, where the wickets are True and there is dew, India needed a little more than par, but we slowed down due to the 100. Perfect to be classified under coach Gambhir's new diktat 'Don't chase milestones, chase trophies'
