Thank you to the Greek Community of Mississauga for inviting me to the Greek Independence Day flag-raising ceremony today at City Hall’s Celebration Square. It was an honour to celebrate the 204th anniversary of Greece’s independence with the community and to reflect on the incredible courage of those who launched the revolt on March 25th, 1821, at the Monastery of Agia Lavra in Kalavryta, Greece. As a proud member of the Hellenic community, I am deeply moved by the resilience and strength of our ancestors, who fought for the freedom and democracy we cherish today. Let us continue to celebrate and preserve our rich heritage for generations to come.

The pioneer group, part of the Mhandisi Majuu program, will work on a contractual basis with a leading firm in Greece, participated in a pre-departure session that included an overview of the cross-cultural aspects of their host country. The event, led by Amb. Hellen Gichuhi, Secretary for Diaspora Welfare and Partnerships, who represented Diaspora Affairs PS @roselinenjogu, was graced by Hon. @EstherPassaris , the Nairobi County Women Representative, where the departing Kenyans shared their expectations and experiences while pursuing these opportunities. In her address, Hon. @EstherPassaris lauded the participants for their determination to seek opportunities beyond Kenya's borders and encouraged them to work diligently, maintain discipline, and uphold values of hard work and integrity. She urged them to be exemplary ambassadors for Kenya and to proudly represent the nation. Amb. Gichuhi congratulated the pioneer group on their achievement, highlighting their role in showcasing Kenya as a hub of professional skills and talent. She also shared insights into the mandate of the State Department and emphasized the importance of supporting one another during times of need. The event was attended by Ms. @ikarari , Director and Head of the Skills and Expertise Division, along with representatives from various agencies, as well as family and friends of the departing group. #MhandisiMajuu

I kicked off the day at the Toronto Economic Forum with @Effie_ONB and @Aris_Babikian, where we had a productive discussion focused on the growing economic partnership between Greece and Ontario. It was great to meet with so many members of Ontario’s thriving Greek community!

This week, I participated in the Toronto Economic Forum III, organized by the Delphi Economic Forum in partnership with @THI_OneGreece. This event brought together business and political leaders from Canada and Greece, fostering opportunities for economic collaboration and deeper cultural ties. Honoured to have joined Toronto's Greek community on the Danforth this weekend for the annual Oxi Day parade! 🇬🇷 Today, we commemorate the courage and resilience of the Greek people on October 28, 1940, when Greece stood firmly against fascism, rejecting the ultimatum to surrender. This historic “No” (or “Oxi” in Greek) became a defining moment of resistance and a symbol of bravery. Thank you to everyone who came together to remember this legacy—Ζήτω η Ελλάς!
