Crime Si Poa held a colorful graduation ceremony for 35 inmates and staff drawn from Kisumu Maximum and Kibos Maximum Security Prisons respectively. The Chief Guest Hon. Justice Joe Omido, pointed out that paralegals, as the first point of contact for citizens seeking justice, are essential in the access to justice strategy. “Legal resources are out of reach for many citizens and are mainly concentrated in urban areas, therefore, paralegals bridge this gap by providing basic legal assistance within their communities,” said the Judge. The training was facilitated with support from @CrimeSiPoaKenya and @AssoECPM #CrimeSiPoa as part of the strategy to ensure that those facing capital offenses have tools to navigate the complex criminal justice system. #AccesstoJustice

Speaking at the event , Officer in Charge of Kibos Maximum Prison, ACGP Billy Koshal, pointed out that inadequate criminal representation is the weakest link in the criminal justice sector and applauded @CrimeSiPoaKenya for addressing this challenge. He also thanked OIC Kisumu Maximum Prison, CP Francis Opondo, for facilitating the temporary transfer of inmates from Kibos to participate in the 2-week Paralegal Training Program at Kisumu Maximum Prison. #accesstojustice
