Court Update for Emmanuel and Takunda📌 The two comrades have been remanded to 8 May. They remain in high spirits and unbroken by this unjust and prolonged detention. At Mbare Magistrates Court, we filed an application for the release from custody of former @Zinasuzim leader @EmmanuelSitima7 on bail. Sitima, who was arrested on Tuesday & charged with malicious damage to property for allegedly throwing stones & breaking a window pane & throwing fliers written "Save Zimbabwe Campaign, No to 2030" at some residence, will spend the night in remand prison & returns to court on Friday at 11:15 am, where Mbare Magistrate Dennis Mangosi will hand down his ruling on his bail application. In Harare, current & former student leaders are under seige as ZRP arrested former @Zinasuzim leader @EmmanuelSitima7, who has been in police custody from Tuesday while the student union's incumbent leader @HamauswaZW has been summoned by some unidentified people, who visited @Zinasuzim offices, to present himself at Harare Central Police Station.

The situation involving the raid on the ZINASU offices this morning in Harare and the targeting of its President, Liberty Hamauswa, raises significant legal concerns regarding due process in Zimbabwe. We are not in a State of emergency so the clear statutory and constitutional guidelines governing police conduct must be adhered to. The people who raided the office are reported to have seized some documents. Under the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act [Chapter 9:07], the standard procedure is that a search must be conducted under a warrant issued by a judge or magistrate. These unidentified people didn’t produce any warrant. Secondly they dropped a note attached here, urging Liberty Hamauswa the ZINASU President to hand himself over to Law and Order. A citizen is generally not legally compelled to comply with an informal note from an unidentified person. Legal summons must be issued by a court or a formal Invitation to Interview should be on official Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) letterhead, signed by a known officer with their rank and force number. Thirdly the people who conducted the raid concealed their number plates. Interestingly, the ZRP itself launched a nationwide operation in March 2026 specifically targeting "plateless vehicles" to curb crimes like kidnapping and robbery. Law enforcement using unmarked or plateless vehicles contradicts police’s own public safety directives. Standard arrests or raids should be conducted by identifiable state agents to prevent abductions by third parties. It is against this background that we fear for the safety of the ZINASU President. Let’s stand in Solidarity with the young man.
