GREAT fun doing the WisBusiness Podcast with Alex Moe this week. We discussed the future of the Wisconsin MEP Network and how the new structure will help more small- and medium-sized manufacturers become more resilient. lnkd.in/gPrC7qvd

You could also work hard but then have your spirits lifted instead of crushed when you walk outside

Maria Cristina De Nardi (@M_De_Nardi) reminds us that Minneapolis woke up to –22 °C this morning. The best part of doing a Ph.D. in economics at Minnesota? When it’s that cold, working through Stokey–Lucas–Prescott Recursive Methods in Economic Dynamics actually becomes the most enjoyable activity available. And then you reread the introduction and smile at this gem: “The idea of an economic equilibrium has undergone a similar evolution: it no longer carries the connotation of a system at rest.” (The book came out in 1989, but the notes circulated long before.) Moments like that are why I am immensely proud to call myself a Minnesota alumnus—and yes, alumnus is the correct singular, masculine, second declension noun. There are few places on Earth where you learn as much economics as at @UMN_Econ. And the weather? Honestly—not that bad. You get used to it.

The concept of the U.S. national security industrial base has been defined too narrowly. Here are some ways we are thinking about broadening it (with restraint) here at @BrookingsInst New paper, from @MichaelEOHanlon @MWosinska @thomaswright08 and myself @kyleichan
Brookings Foreign Policy@BrookingsFP

In a new report, @MichaelEOHanlon, @MWosinska, @MarkMuro1, & @thomaswright08 outline a framework that broadens and scopes the US national security industrial base—focusing on supply chains where disruptions could have dangerous consequences. brook.gs/3XQ8VY3

90% of drivers turning right at an intersection only look at oncoming traffic to their left, not at the runners (in this case) or pedestrians approaching from their right that they’re about to hit.

@smerconish @profgalloway always finds a way to cut through the noise and find kernels of truth — this time it’s that a man’s strength is not measured in the meanness he delivers, but in the mercy he preserves.
