Your body is not a temple that needs worshipping and protecting! It’s a tool that needs honing and using for everything it’s capable of!

Just updated a diagram I did in 2017 around nociception/pain! The idea is to show all the sub systems that can influence the pain experienced, including wider factors such as health & lifestyle

How important is SMT specificity? Our new paper shows specificity might matter less than we thought, but don’t misinterpret it! 🚨 Proper training & skill still matter such as good patient alliance, respectful hands-on techniques, adapting to patient comfort Open access soon!

@arnoldwongPT Your recent comment about the elderly and underrepresentation in studies is important considering the demographic shift and the high prevalence of spinal pain in this group. Be nice to chat about this at some point thanks

@JOSPT @CasperGNim Thanks Casper this is a very good question indeed and if we are to say that we are evidence based we can’t ignore these findings. It doesn’t change the fact that that we still need to teach psychomotor skill acquisition but emphasise other clinical skills in the curriculum.

Our authors assessed 10 RCTs & concluded that benefits (pain & disability) associated with spinal manipulative therapy are not caused by targeting a specific spinal level Do we need to re-write manual therapy curricula? Full article 👉 jospt.org/doi/epdf/10.25… #yourJOSPT

Another addition to our graduating team - Congratulations to Dr Tom Calverley who graduated with his #PhD yesterday. Tom's work primarily focused on the cerebrovascular adaptations to High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) in the aged population. 👏👏
