Dr. Avital Pitkis, Dr. Perrine Tami, and I believe that health-system navigators are essential to supporting access to care and resources — especially as more patients struggle with navigating social determinants of health like food insecurity and housing. healthydebate.ca/2025/01/topic/…

What is Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) in AI? Very familiar to AI researchers but much less so for implementors and users in biomedicine. A brief review of how AI models can be augmented/customized with RAG @NEJM_AI ai.nejm.org/doi/full/10.10…

I am honoured to be appointed as the new Minister of Energy and Electrification. I will remain squarely focused on growing Ontario's clean, affordable and reliable energy supply to drive economic growth while standing strong against the Liberal carbon tax. I congratulate the new Minister of Education, @ToddSmithPC, and I thank Premier @fordnation for his confidence. It has been an honour of a lifetime to serve in the Ministry of Education because we did the hard things that will have generational impacts for kids. Thank you, to my family and my team, for believing in me. And, thank you to families in King-Vaughan for supporting me through this journey.

#PalliativeCare is an essential aspect of comprehensive, patient-centered care for individuals with life-threatening illnesses, including #stroke. Despite the known benefits of palliative care, our study found a significant delay in initiating palliative care consultations (PMCs) for stroke patients. Our retrospective study aimed to identify the demographic and clinical factors associated with receiving a PMC among stroke patients who died during their hospital stay and had a stroke diagnosis. Our study included 320 patients who died during their hospital admission for stroke between January 2nd, 2016, and February 28th, 2020. We collected and analyzed patient data, including age, gender, admission source, stroke diagnosis, stroke type, and severity. The average age of the patients in our study was 72 years old, with most patients admitted from the community (56%) and presenting with a stroke diagnosis upon admission (88%). Ischemic strokes (54%) were more common than hemorrhagic strokes, and the majority of strokes were classified as severe (63%). Despite the severity of our patients' conditions, only 29% received a PMC, with a median time to consultation of six days. This delay in initiating palliative care consultation highlights a critical quality gap. Our study identified several clinical characteristics associated with a higher incidence of receiving a PMC: Older age Female gender No stroke diagnosis at admission to the hospital Ischemic stroke History of cancer or dementia Conversely, factors associated with a lower incidence of receiving a PMC included: Admission from an acute care hospital Lower GCS By identifying the factors associated with receiving a PMC, we can work towards ensuring that all stroke patients receive comprehensive, patient-centered care throughout their hospital stay. Our retrospective study highlights a quality gap and opportunity for improved integration of palliative care consultation in acute stroke care. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38725344/ @AANmember @CNSFNeuroLinks @uoftmedicine @CSC_Stroke

I was very excited to share some of the radiology AI research I have been doing this year in the @qtimlab at the @AIHealthMIT #AICures2024 conference. I also had such a fun time connecting with and learning from new and old friends! 😊
