@Brick_Cop @MentalHealthCop I still remember being assaulted whilst single crewed and CPS NFA’ing it as I “did not take into account his vulnerabilities” 🤷🏼‍♂️ didn’t even speak to the chap before he assaulted me!!

@MentalHealthCop A colleague recently had an assault NFA’d against him by the CPS, because although the suspect had previous convictions, the previous assault emergency workers had all been NFA’d - you guessed it, because of Mental Health…🤦🏼‍♂️

"I was moving more towards ... crime or mental health". Those two things are not mutually exclusive - it's not crime OR mental health, it's crime AND mental health. #NottinghamInquiry

@Happy_Tuesday1 @AchingRat @InspGadgetBlogs The way the article reads is that the first time he absconded was with prison staff, and the second with Police. Obviously doesn’t make it any better, but two different organisations. We don’t use foot cuffs here, which would have stopped this straight away.

@aussie_sarge @west_response It’s true tbh. I have argues the case for routine arming or even a set limit of a response team, like 25% for example carry a sidearm to supplement ARVS. The main sticking point is UoF justification and being hung out to dry.

@west_response The modern reality! I’ve posted elsewhere today, UK officers are less effective bc they’re more concerned with being investigated & dragged through disciplinary by someone with zero experience who believes restraint is a tic & flick exercise. It needs to change & very quickly

@AchingRat @Happy_Tuesday1 @InspGadgetBlogs obviously big questions, but put it into perspective. We don’t know how long the officers were there, what point of the shift it was at, what point of his treatment etc. momentary lapse of concentration & he’s gone. Cops are human to & make mistakes, shit happens

@sherlock_comms It’s data for data’s sake. It won’t have any meaningful effect on how the cops do the job and will only be used in passing in some obscure oversight committee, or like you said, to get someone a promotion. Ah well, onto the next form eh?

@sherlock_comms Maybe in data heavily skewed by the Metropolis & WMP. Certainly not in my own personal experience, which doesn’t count for a lot on a national scale. Again, still no “WHY”, if we already know the answer.

@sherlock_comms Why we have to complete S.163 stop forms nowadays. As in a GOOD reason, not one drawn from an obscure NPCC meeting or CoP SOP.

@remmy_308 @Brick_Cop @ukhomeoffice I was extremely fortunate to have that on my section when I first joined. Now? I’m 2/3 cons away from being the senior.. most have retired, left or taken sideways moves to more cushy roles. Don’t blame them after 20+ years in the job mind you!! The core of my team now is 21-29.

@PCPanda15 @Brick_Cop @ukhomeoffice Cons ranged from old hands in the twilight of their career to a handful of sprogs but the majority of cons had about 8 to 15 years in. A great range of experience and characters 😉

All this talk of reform, restructuring, change and so on, no mention of renumeration for a job reliant on caffeine and good will… Unless there’s a significant change in how Police Officers are paid, retention and recruitment will continue to be a serious issue. #ThinBlueLine🚨

@CopScouse @policecommander @MankyTattie Shoplifting is the biggest one here. Can’t make a dent to stop it either without hundreds (potentially thousands) more staff to deal with it. We have a chap within the force who’s wanted for 60+ (yes, 60!!) shoplifting/robbery/theft offences.

@remmy_308 @Brick_Cop @ukhomeoffice recruitment seems now to be solely within the 18-21 age range which makes me (nearly 30) seem like a dinosaur!! I have full respect & admiration for the young’uns joining the job straight out of high school, but the lack of any life experience & general maturity is telling.

@Brick_Cop @ukhomeoffice You're forgetting they have a tried and tested solution for poor retention @Brick_Cop Just keep recruiting don't worry about the cost or lack of experience, the next government can sort that out 😬🙄

@CopScouse Obviously now we are moving into the semantics of legislation which would get fairly tedious. As with our other discussion, I respect your opinion, despite them being completely at odds with one another. End of the day, nobody has been hurt and lessons will be learnt as usual.

@CopScouse on the contrary, the justification of “someone might get hurt” is, in fact, a valid reason. That justification (amongst many, many others) falls into basically every facet of public order policing. Hell, that’s even used to justify a breach of the peace!!!

I may be in the minority within the Policing sphere, but banning the Tel Aviv fans was the right thing to do, irrespective of the current political climate. Officers would have got hurt dealing with this.

@CopScouse And then when the proverbial shit hits the fan, officers & MOP’s are injured, property damaged, what do you say? I’d rather be having this discussion than an inquest post-riot. And for the record, I was sounded out the mutual aid should it have gone ahead.
