Peace Corps Mongolia

In preparation for our M31 cohort of PC Trainees to begin their service throughout Mongolia as Volunteers end of this month, they have put their training into practice. Last week, our M31s co-taught seminars for 60 english teachers from diverse backgrounds and experiences.

Congratulations to Dr. Jack Weatherford for his significant contributions towards the understanding of the history and recognition of the Great Chingis Khan. Today, Dr. Weatherford received the "Chingis Khan" medal from the President of Mongolia Mr. Khurelsukh.

Our Trainees continue to learn about Mongolia's language, culture, lifestyle, delicious food, and rich history.

PC Trainees recently visited several secondary schools in UB during their pre-service training. School management teams, teachers and student representatives warmly welcomed trainees, provided valuable information about their schools, and answered trainees’ questions.

September is #Deafawarenessmonth. We are pleased to share with you the photo of the Mongolian Sign Language Dictionary published in 1995. PCV Linda Ball developed the first Mongolian Sign Language Dictionary with Mrs. U. Badnaa, while working at Special School 29 in Ulaanbaatar.

The world is celebrating the #WorldLiteracyDay The goal of World Literacy Day is to raise awareness of the importance of literacy as a matter of dignity and human rights, and to advance towards a more literate and sustainable society.

This morning PC staff gratefully thanked U.S. Ambassador Klecheski for his support to us and the PC Volunteers. We all eagerly await the Volunteers’ return in October.

Denim Day

We are pleased to end this year with a post about the unveiling of Peace Corps Mongolia’s 30th anniversary commemorative stamp. The stamp celebrates the strong partnership between Mongolia and Peace Corps and represents 30 years of service, friendship, and peace. Happy New Year!

PCM hosted a celebratory event honoring our partners in the Art Gallery. We were pleased to have with us U.S. Ambassador Michael Klecheski, former Foreign Minister Ts. Gombosuren, representatives of Mongolian Ministries, JICA, KOICA, UNICEF, UNFPA and local NGOs at the event.

On occasion of PC Mongolia’s 30th anniversary, PC staff visited Darkhan-Uul aimag to recognize the generous support of local governments including the Aimag Health and Education Departments, school directors and local communities to our Volunteers.

U.S. Ambassador Klecheski and Peace Corps Mongolia Country Director Kim Mansaray visited Uvs Aimag and expressed gratitude to Uvs governor, local officials and partners on occasion of the Peace Corps Mongolia's 30th anniversary.

PCM staff travelled to Khentii and Dornod aimags, met with aimag officials and PCV supervisors. Staff expressed gratitude for the outstanding support provided over the last 30 years. The aimag officials and SVs fondly shared memories of working with PCVs were quite meaningful.
