Christopher Nolan on the making of The Dark Knight Rises: “There are no good third sequels, basically. Rocky III maybe. But they are very difficult. So my instinct was to change genres. The first one is an origin story. The second one is a crime drama very much like Heat, and the third one, we needed to blow up bigger, because you can’t scale down. The audience doesn’t give you any choice, but nor can you go back and do what you did before. So you’ve got to shift genres. We went for the historical epic, the disaster film, The Towering Inferno meets Doctor Zhivago.” Source: Tom Shone’s book “The Nolan Variations”.

Court Hears Account of Terrifying Home Break-In Targeting Teenage Girl as Community Praises Boy as Hero A 27-year-old man Mampeme Mikamibua is facing up to 14 years in prison if convicted after allegedly breaking into a family home in Lagore Lawns, Dunshaughlin, Co Meath and attempting to rape a 16-year-old girl inside her own bathroom. SnD Media News was the first official news outlet to break the story on Wednesday night, February 26, 2026, based on the victim’s mother’s public Facebook post made shortly after the incident. According to the mother, Katherine McMorrow, the terrifying ordeal unfolded on Wednesday evening, February 25, at their family home on Lagore Lawns. The intruder allegedly entered the house, chased the 16-year-old girl upstairs, dragged her into the bathroom, and shut the door before attempting to rape her. In a heroic intervention, the teenager’s 13-year-old brother ran up the stairs, kicked in the bathroom door, and physically dragged the man off his sister. The girl then fled screaming from the house to a neighbour’s home, raising the alarm throughout the estate that “a man was trying to rape her.”Neighbours rushed to assist the distressed family and Gardaí were called to the scene immediately. During the arrest, Gardaí are reported to have removed the suspect’s underwear from his pockets. According to the mother’s account, when asked what they should do with him, the man allegedly replied that he had intended to rape the 16-year-old “in her own house that he broke into.” Mampeme Mikamibua, of Lagore Crescent, Dunshaughlin (an address in the same residential area), appeared before Judge Eirinn McKiernan at Navan District Court on Friday morning, February 27.He is charged with burgling the property at Lagore Lawns by trespassing with intent to commit the arrestable offence of rape, contrary to Section 12(1)(a) of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act 2001. Detective Sergeant Shane Dervan told the court that the accused made no reply when the charge was put to him. A bail application was made but strongly opposed by Det Sgt Dervan due to the extremely serious nature of the alleged offence. Judge McKiernan refused bail and remanded Mikamibua in custody. The judge also directed that the accused receive urgent medical and psychiatric treatment while in custody. He is due to appear again at Trim District Court next Tuesday, March 3. The case has left residents in Dunshaughlin deeply disturbed,as both the alleged victim’s home and the accused’s address are located in the same residential area of the town. Early court reports initially withheld the man’s name for legal reasons, with the first image and full identification emerging today. The incident has prompted renewed discussion locally around personal safety and security within residential estates, particularly in quieter commuter towns where serious crimes of this nature are considered rare.  Several neighbours told SnD Media that the events have left families shaken, with parents in particular expressing concern for the safety of their children and calling for increased awareness around home security measures. One resident in particular proclaimed; "this man must have been stalking this teenage girl for some time, waiting for an opportunity to get to her, he continued; what makes this even more disturbing is that he was living not just within the locality, but the estate itself" Community members have also praised the swift actions of the young teenager who intervened during the incident, with many describing his actions as courageous and potentially lifesaving. As the case progresses through the judicial system, the people of Dunshaughlin remain deeply affected by what many residents have described as one of the most disturbing incidents to occur in the community in living memory.

If there was ever an image that perfectly captures the modern day plantation of Ireland, it's this one. Liberal women assisting strange foreign men to move into a rural Irish village with a population of less than 400 people.

@MickOKeeffe @CanadaPoli2 For context, if you want to be publicly assessed for ASD you’re facing a 4+ year wait for it. Only once assessed can you qualify for SNA support, OT, ST, or the grants. Not only was the queue skipped, it looks like the entire qualification process was bypassed

@CanadaPoli2 They messed up. There are ongoing protests about the lack of SNA's for Irish kids, meanwhile an African kid who arrived 18 months ago has his own one-to-one support. Madness!

The Irish Times posted this and deleted it 15 minutes later because they revealed that a random African child has his own special needs assistant while Irish parents are protesting in Dublin trying to get an SNA for their kids. Another case of "oh you must feel sorry for the poor African children" while your own children go without. Don't buy this nonsense. Deport them all!

@football_pb Nobody claimed Woltemade was better. Pedro is one behind but with four assists in a woefully disjointed Chelsea team. Mbuemo is a midfielder. Sesko a long-term pet project. Ekiteke just an overall better player with much greater technical skill (he’s also only 23)

Viktor Gyokeres (15) now has more goals than Joao Pedro (14), Hugo Ekitike (14), Bryan Mbuemo (10), Nick Woltemade (10), Benjamin Sesko (7) this season. All other summer signings people claimed were better, including many Arsenal fans, it's quite disgusting how some treat him.

Ronda Rousey says Dana White offered her the largest PPV deal in UFC history before the move to Paramount+, but wasn't willing to offer a guaranteed amount once the new deal was in place 😬 "They didn't want to set a precedent of giving me the guaranteed money I deserve... they just made a $7.7 billion deal at Paramount. It's in their best interest NOT to put on the best fights possible, but to spend as little money as possible so they can keep it. Now that they sold the company, it's out of Dana's hands unfortunately and it's fallen onto Hunter Campbell and UFC corp. They don't care about putting on the best fights possible, they care about putting on the most cost effective fights possible." (via @jimrome)

High Court Awards Damages to International Protection Applicants Left Street Homeless for Over Two Months The High Court has awarded compensatory damages to two international protection applicants who were left street homeless for prolonged periods in early 2023 after the State failed to provide them with accommodation and other material reception conditions to which they were entitled under European Union law. In a judgment delivered on 19 February 2026, Mr Justice Cian Ferriter assessed the quantum of Francovich damages payable to S.A. and R.J., following an earlier determination that the State had unlawfully failed to provide them with material reception conditions under Directive 2013/33/EU and the European Communities (Reception Conditions) Regulations 2018. The State had admitted breaches of the Directive, the Regulations, and Article 1 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, which guarantees respect for human dignity. Both applicants arrived in Ireland in early 2023 and sought international protection. S.A. presented in mid February 2023 and R.J. in mid March 2023. Each qualified for material reception conditions, including accommodation, food, clothing and access to hygiene facilities. However, the State did not provide accommodation to either man. S.A. was street homeless for 71 days and R.J. for 63 days. The proceedings were selected as test cases from a broader group of similar claims. In an earlier judgment, the High Court referred questions to the Court of Justice of the European Union concerning whether the State could rely on force majeure as a defence to a claim for Francovich damages, having regard to the sharp increase in demand for accommodation at the time. In its judgment of 1 August 2025 in Case C-97/24, the CJEU held that a Member State which failed for a number of weeks to guarantee access to the material reception conditions required by the Directive could not avoid liability by pleading temporary exhaustion of housing capacity, even where that situation arose from a sudden and significant influx of applicants. The CJEU concluded that the breach was sufficiently serious. Following that ruling, the State accepted that the Francovich criteria were met. The High Court then proceeded to assess damages in accordance with Irish law, subject to EU principles of equivalence and effectiveness. The Court held that Francovich damages are compensatory in nature and are intended to make good the loss actually suffered. There is no separate punitive or deterrent element, and aggravated or exemplary damages were not warranted on the facts. The Court rejected the submission that declarations alone or nominal damages would suffice. Referring to Supreme Court authority on damages for breach of constitutional rights, the Court held that where a serious breach has occurred over a sustained period and has had a real impact on the individual, compensatory damages are required. In relation to S.A., the Court noted that he is a 25 year old man from Afghanistan who fled after serious events involving the Taliban and had sustained significant injuries in a road traffic accident in Hungary shortly before arriving in Ireland. During his 71 days of homelessness, he slept rough in Dublin during cold and wet weather conditions. He experienced physical pain, severe headaches, depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation. He received a single €25 voucher shortly after presentation and did not receive his daily expenses allowance until early April 2023, when it was backdated. He was not assessed as a vulnerable applicant for prioritisation. The Court found that his physical and psychological vulnerabilities were exacerbated by the period of street homelessness and that the breach had a heightened impact on him. An award of €9,500 in compensatory damages was made. R.J., a 22 year old Christian man from India, entered the State in March 2023 and sought international protection on the basis of claimed persecution arising from an inter faith relationship. He slept rough for 63 nights, largely near the International Protection Office, in a tent provided by a charitable organisation. He also received a €25 voucher on presentation and remained without accommodation for over two months. The Court considered the duration of homelessness, the conditions endured, the distress and humiliation suffered, and the limited financial assistance available. Taking those factors into account, the Court awarded €8,000 in compensatory damages. The Court emphasised that the assessment of damages is fact specific and that it was not setting a definitive level or band for similar cases. However, it concluded that the nature of the breaches, their duration, and their impact on both applicants required awards of compensatory damages beyond a mere declaration of rights. 🚨💣 Heartbreaking scenes outside the stadium after Arsenal’s win over Wigan Athletic last night 💔😔 A devoted Arsenal fan, holding his young son’s jersey, begged Mikel Arteta for an autograph as the manager walked to his car. Arteta looked over, said nothing, got in, and drove away without signing. The father was left standing there, jersey still in hand, trying to console his visibly upset son. Football gives you moments you never forget… sometimes for the wrong reasons. 🏟️❤️‍🩹
