Specializing in indifference. My opinions are just that.

@NikLynam Agreed, they'd have to be high on an unproven talent like Boumedienne, but with the D talent in this draft, why would they be? WPG's only shot would be a blockbuster featuring JoMo, with additional pieces from both sides. Even that might not do it

@JetEffectWPG @NHLJetsNation Exactly. Offer sheets are driven by player agents and teams. So unless he wants to play in WPG, ain’t happening. My guess, ain’t happening

Should the Jets consider a bold move of making an offer sheet for Pavel Dorofeyev this summer? A potential offer sheet of $6 million would cost the Jets a 1st and 3rd round pick. #NHLJetsNation #GoJetsGo #PavelDorofeyev

@kylefukinconnor @mikemcintyrewpg One of many reasons. But c’mon, is Ehlers consistently doing what he did the other night in a much heavier Central/WC playoff bracket? All resigning him does is staple WPG to the bubble/mushy middle. I’ll happily take 8th overall for Ehlers, if that’s the math here

@PDJnyc @mikemcintyrewpg Not every team could afford what he cost but we were one of them and without him we went from presidents trophy to 7th last in the league

@PDJnyc @mikemcintyrewpg Maybe he could have done more if mason appleton wasn’t put out there in the last 5 minutes of games to miss an open net instead of Ehlers

With Ehlers popping off last night, thought we’d look at 2025 UFA deals 1 year later!

@MikeBartner Ehlers acolytes are having a great day. And he played wonderfully last night. Congrats! Does that erase his playoff record in WPG, or the fact any team in the league could have expressed interest in UFA Ehlers and only CAR and WSH did. No. It’s just 1 game. Stay tuned

I don’t think anybody mentioned yet that the Jets have Barlow, Yager and Boumedienne at the draft party this year which completely eliminates the thought of “selling the farm” to go for it this season.

@Bomber_blue22 @ScottBilleck Ehlers played very well last night, and I’m sure that one game will be conveniently on repeat here for some time. But anyone denying what @Bomber_blue22 has said isn’t interested in the facts around his postseasons in WPG, or cares to admit the Jets still tried to resign him

@ScottBilleck He had 10 years to show what he could do in the playoffs. A couple goals from him in 17/18 gets the Jets to the final. But he was a ghost then and each time the Jets made the playoffs. He had a good series agsinst Dallas last year but he was already leaving Winnipeg.

Letting Nikolaj Ehlers walk — never mind losing him for nothing — will end up being the biggest mistake the current Jets regime has made.

@NikLynam They should draft him because of the common thread of smaller, skilled forwards: they all play in the Eastern Conference

@ConnorHrabchak1 @AFPAnalytics Depends. Is it pro-rated so we don’t have to pay Perfetti for the 40 games or so it typically takes him to ramp up his game each season? This guy gets a short term prove it deal, or he’s part of a draft day deal that ups the compete and talent on this squad next season++

@mikemcintyrewpg @WinnipegNews With all due respect, even when he was here, he was one dimensional and there was a number 33 feeding him the puck on the power-play he was and still as a defensive liability. We don't need this.

A whopping 70 per cent of the 273 voters would like to see a reunion between the #NHLJets and Patrik Laine this summer. ICYMI, my @WinnipegNews column on the subject, where I lay out the potential risks and rewards: winnipegfreepress.com/breakingnews/2…
Mike McIntyre@mikemcintyrewpg

Let’s take a fun vote. (I’d suggest reading the column first where I spell out what this would need to look like) winnipegfreepress.com/sports/2026/05… Do you think the #NHLJets should pursue signing pending UFA Patrik Laine to a short-term, low $$$ deal.

@nhlburnerboi Their scouting in the back half of the first round can surely be questioned. But I’m not too worried about their top 10 capability

@PDJnyc This is true but they have a new head scout and havent hit on a pick since 2016. This one is very important

@kylefukinconnor @ScottBilleck I’ll use the example of Mitch Marner, who also had a history of coming up short in the postseason. He’s changed his game, got off the periphery and drives more to the net front. Results speak for themselves. Until Ehlers does that, nothing changes for him

@PDJnyc @ScottBilleck He was given some line mates to play with but he only ever played 12-14 minutes in important situations and now he’s getting 15 - 18 mins and has been a top 10 players throughout these playoffs

@kylefukinconnor @ScottBilleck Wasn’t given an opportunity w Stastny and Laine as line mates??? Or even Monahan and Toffoli compared to his current aging Staal and Martinook. Enough with the excuses

@PDJnyc @ScottBilleck He was also given a very sheltered role in Winnipeg during the playoffs having mason aopleton, namestnikov and I think Lowry or neino with more minutes than him. Was never really given the chance to show what he could do

The #NHLJets and Patrik Laine were a perfect fit for a few years before circumstances took them in different directions. Now, years later, there’s a compelling case to be made that a hockey homecoming might make sense for both sides. My latest column: winnipegfreepress.com/sports/2026/05…
