High irregular migration is a symptom of a failing border policy. The more they choke regular migration to higher it drives irregular migration. If people need to be here to unite with family, they will come by whatever means necessary. We need more safe routes not fewer!

We don't count people's worth in numbers. It's hard to watch politicians celebrate falling migration just days after they labelled people who've built lives in this country "strangers". So today, and always, we want to be very clear: Newcomers are welcome and they always will be.

One of the most overlooked aspects about asylum seekers is that small boats are not everything. Just under 30,000 people entered by boat in the last year, of 90,000 applicants. So about 31% on boats, 20% have a visa, & the rest enter through routes we totally ignore. #r4today
