@GreyhoundBus My daughter needed to get home from out of state for training for a summer work opportunity. She had to pay an Uber to get to the bus station and an Uber to get home after the bus didn’t show. She was “notified” it was cancelled more than an hour after it should have arrived.

If getting somewhere is important, don’t rely on Greyhound Bus. Lesson learned the hard way. @GreyhoundBus

@GreyhoundBus This is a joke! My daughter arrived at 1:20 am to be on time for 2:00 am bus. “Notified” at 3:08. If you can’t provide the service, please notify people with time to make alternate plans. Now she’s out the Uber each way and the job training she was supposed to attend.

Not sure who created this, but a great idea for parents as we plan for whatever happens with our schools over the course of the upcoming school year!

It was a great morning! Over 600 joined! @Bob and I might do 2 more - one for folks new to Notice and Note or BHH (called Notice and Note 1.0) and one for those ready to dig deeper (Notice and Note 2.0). No fee. Will judge interest by RTs. Early June.

@teachmbw @alicekeeler My own children had teachers that would do this. “Bring in 10 can of food for bonus points.” I had my children take the food, but they heard all about how I didn’t agree with this practice. 😂

@alicekeeler Same with extra points for bringing in food to the classroom (and this was not for a Family Consumer class), getting a piece of paper signed, the list goes on and on....

How is needing to pee worth classroom points? I think we need to really critically examine the purpose of points. Measuring compliance or measuring learning?

Adminisrators, teachers love to feel appreciated. And while mugs and snacks are lovely, what we really want is an ongoing culture of appreciation built through encouraging our autonomy, inviting our flexibility, coaching our failures and your regular presence in our classrooms.

Teachers are SIX times more engaged & effective when they feel valued & that their strengths are utilized in their school, yet 80% don't feel they are. Imagine what dynamic school cultures and student success could be achieved if all teachers felt valued and supported!

@tblkerr @Math_m_Addicts @robertkaplinsky I was taught the same (a long time ago!) However because “reduce” is so ingrained for many, I always let students know they may hear/see that word for simplify as well. I want them to be able to transfer their skills.

@Math_m_Addicts @robertkaplinsky I was told not to use the word reduce the fractions because reduce implies “making smaller” but you aren’t making the fraction smaller. “Simplify” implies being more direct with the answer which is what we are doing with fractions. ???

Anyone have a way of explaining when to use "simplify" versus "reduce" that they can share with me? I'm getting the usage mixed up. #MTBoS #iteachmath

@robertkaplinsky @amandat_hola Alg 1 in 6th grade and Analytical Geometry/Trig the summer between 9/10, so he could max out math courses offered. Skipped Calculus I and ll in college, but we decided to have him “repeat” the next course, so he had solid background knowledge and didn’t get in over his head.

I wonder why we rarely hear about schools pushing students to accelerate through ELA. Schools proudly talk about a pathway to allow kids to take 3 years of math in 2 years... but rarely the same with ELA. How'd we got to a place where one option seems silly and the other great?

@amandat_hola Maybe, but I don't know if acceleration helps or hurts potential STEM grads. Hard to tell without a control group.
