Some of the worst TV coverage in golf history. Sam Burns ties the major record shooting a 62 at Royal Birkdale. USA viewers basically didn’t see any of it. Somehow the production team didn’t think we should see one of the lowest rounds ever.

North Berwick Golf Club #25 World Top 100 1832 - Old Tom Morris, Strath, Sayers $425 USD I’ve been blessed to walk most of the great golf courses of the world. I’d put North Berwick with places like Cypress Point, Royal Melbourne, Augusta National, Tara Iti, and The Old Course as the best walks in golf. Is it the best 18 holes? No. It starts off with 2 world class golf holes. But then enters of a stretch of very good golf holes. Inland, fun golf holes, but not holes you will write home about. But as you make the turn, things change. Hole 9 brings you to the sea. And then things just get crazy. It’s just hole after hole that you will never forget. Not a single sleeper and a bunch of the most interesting golf holes in the world. Bass, Pit, Perfection, Redan, Gate (The Biarritz), Point Garry, Home. You won’t find a better stretch of golf on the planet and you won’t find a more beautiful stretch. Cypress may have the biggest climax, but sustained beauty here at a level unmatched. Are the views a factor? Of course. The views of Bass Rock are amazing as are the views of Treasure Island. It all adds to the day. The walk itself is delightful. It’s an easy walk and the place is so charming, honestly you feel 20 lbs lighter than normal. You walk on air here. The course has Old Tom’s name on it, but like most classic Scottish courses, it’s a course built by nature, time, and evolution. Many have lent their design skill as it has evolved from 6 holes to 18. Most recently Clyde Johnson did great work and soon Gil Hanse will add his own touch. I adore North Berwick. One of my favorite places on the planet and one that all golfers should strive to visit.

Dunaverty Golf Club 1889 $85 USD For the golfer who is also an adventurer, Dunaverty is a must visit. One of the most unique experiences in golf. Million dollar views for the price of a decent public course in the USA. Sitting at the south end of the Kintyre Peninsula, it truly is a piece of land that has to be seen and walked to be understood. The sights are stunning, Dunaverty Rock is worth the trip alone. But the land is also incredible land for golf, a wild romp along the coast. The clubhouse is small and comforting. What is needed and nothing more. There are no needless frills, but the friendly smiles and the fresh made cake will surely make you feel at home. The golf course is a 4800 yard, par 66 golf course. This is unthinkable in the USA, people crave a par 70+ and 6000+ yards. But if you can put those constructs out of your mind, you soon realize golf was meant to be designed around the land, not a yardage and par. The golf course is rugged. Cows roam free on the fairways, electric fences keep them off the greens. The holes are all designed by God first. So you will have blind shots, huge elevation changes, and big natural contours. The things that make golf interesting. There are many birdies available, but don’t be shocked when your score isn’t as low as you expected by the end. Short doesn’t mean easy and the windy site can surprise you. I adore this place. I consider it a pilgrimage all golf crazies should make. The people are kind and welcoming, the golf is fun and memorable, and the scenery gives you a life boost. Cannot wait to get back!

What do we think of fans cheering for Wyndham’s demise? Whenever he does something bad the fans are elated. Truly in enemy territory. Feel bad, but he’s earned a lot of it. Damaging a locker room, throwing club near a volunteer…and not showing sorrow.

I’ve been blessed to play so many great places. This just might be my favorite. Some places in golf are spiritual, North Berwick is one of them. A place where golf was meant to be. There may be better golf courses. But very few, if any, places I’d rather play golf.
