Is Renaissance Club (host course of the Scottish Open) the most underrated golf course in Scotland? I think it is. (Crail also a contender.) Why does it get underrated? It’s modern. Tom Doak design from 2008. It’s private, truly private. Most Scotland clubs allow outside play. Its gorgeous holes on the sea were added after its founding. So it didn’t initially get the attention and social media love sea holes get. The fescue turf is firm and fast, consistently amongst the best in the country. The land movement is great, despite a few holes being very flat. The greens are bold and challenging. It has everything a links course should have. It’s just an absolute blast to play. Can’t wait to see it on TV this week!
