@PolitlcsUK Also worth noting, that the individual who he applies to to be appointed to either post is the Chancellor. Whose future in that role is probably as long as the Prime Minister is in his.

@PolitlcsUK It's worth noting that whilst Josh Simons intends to resign as an MP, he has to apply to be appointed to either of these roles: - Crown Steward and Bailiff of the three Chiltern Hundreds of Stoke, Desborough and Burnham - Crown Steward and Bailiff of the Manor of Northstead

Unless things move completely away from Andy Burnham and Angela Rayner, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Streeting did not stand for the leadership whenever the vacancy arose.

Streeting has either: - Not got the numbers to Challenge Starmer. - Lost his nerve. - Conceded that he cannot defeat the PM in a leadership election contested between the two of them, nor is he likely to defeat Rayner or Burnham. Otherwise he's no reason not to Challenge today.
Jack Elsom@JackElsom

Allies of Wes Streeting tell me he WILL stand in any Labour leadership race - but is not triggering an immediate contest. They say this is because he wants an orderly timetable that brings in a wide range of candidates. But rival camps are doubtful he has the 81 MPs needed to launch a challenge, and has bottled his bid.

@wildey_1 For scenarios sake, the challenge is successful and Starmer is removed as Prime Minister, and 22 months from now, (as that's how long Starmer has had) Labour are still in a dire position in the polls. Do they try a third name?

@wildey_1 By no means am I saying that Labour should stick with Starmer indefinitely - if they get a similar set of results in the 2027 local elections then there'd certainly be more appetite for a challenge (and probably a better chance of unseating the PM than there is now)

Just repeating this. Removing Starmer at this stage would hand Reform the crowning moment of their local election campaign. Why on earth would Labour consider doing this at this stage and giving Reform this scalp?
Matthew Lowson@PLtheLegend

If Labour MPs are going to mount a leadership contest, then why would they do it now? Reform have spent the entire local election campaign framing it as the chance to remove Starmer. If Labour MPs do just that, they are handing Reform their crowning victory of the campaign.

@wildey_1 And all Labour are doing are handing Reform their crowning moment from this election by doing so. After a campaign where they have spent the last six weeks saying a vote for Reform is a vote to get rid of Starmer. Why on earth would Labour hand this moment to Reform?

@Danfudge Genuinely never been as low walking out of the ground. By Monday at work I was saying "couple of early goals and they will fall apart". Never believed it though 😂

Given the reaction to the decision to make the World Seniors Champion play their match backstage, I am very surprised that after all the criticism that the decision he would take is exactly the same one.

Jason Francis explained in a reply on Facebook that they couldn't have played all four matches on Table 1 because of TV and that the Theatre closes. Whilst that's understandable, it still doesn't mean (in my opinion) that the match couldn't have been added to Friday's schedule.

"I would do it again." Jason Francis has responded to the noise around last week's controversies at the World Seniors. Read here 👇 snookerhq.com/2026/05/12/jas…

@NiallHignett ... every chance he would have been reelected in 2020 (should a challenge have emerged which he contested) which would have split Labour in two.

@NiallHignett The Jeremy Corbyn situation back in 2016 should have shown to Labour a need to have a mechanism similar to the Conservatives for removing the Leader. As it was the deadlock was only broken by Corbyn resigning after the 2019 Election loss. Had he wanted to stay on, there was ...

I literally beg and plead for people to read the Labour rule book, or at least get your information from sources who have. Labour does NOT have a VONC process - a single MP needs 20% of the PLP to initiate a leadership contest. There's no PLP vote - candidates go to members.
GB Politics@GBPolitcs

🚨NEW: 13% of the Parliamentary Labour Party have so far called for Keir Starmer to resign as Prime Minister. A threshold of 20% must be reached to trigger a vote of no confidence

@cruciblecrush Debate is fine, obviously nothing wrong with that, although some seem to think they can say what they like without reply, but sadly there has been a lot of nastiness thats now carried over to other platforms. Its a great shame as some people have been in touch on here for years

Hopefully once the Seniors snooker is over, the community can all calm down, have a break and come back refreshed for a new season. Social media is nothing but toxic sometimes and its been a great shame and somewhat disappointing.

@JFSlade13 @Peston Its not like the decision Labour makes (or doesn't make) locks them in with their Leader until 2029. If Starmer is still Prime Minister 12 months from now then there'll be more clamour for him to go if the results are repeated.

@JFSlade13 @Peston This! By removing the PM at this stage it would just hand Reform their crowning moment of these local elections which even after a dreadful set of results for Labour, based on PNS saw an 0.5% swing from Reform to the Government compared to 2025.

From a minister about the future of the prime minister: “I don’t see how he survives the week. I think the pressure cooker pops. The Catherine West thing will get more support than people think and if not her someone else will do it. I think ministers will start resigning.”

@MAMentoring That's a good point actually. As the foyer wouldn't be any less busy as it was prior to the session at the Interval. Particularly on a day like today where there was the one table rather than two.

@PLtheLegend Ive had it at the world championships itself, I go to a good number of other theatre shows where they do exactly the same. Theres obviously the bar, toilets and stalls there, the intervals were just the same as most went there at the break. A good atmosphere i thought

In scenes which epitomses how the World Seniors has gone this year, the doors outside Crucible were opened, everyone made their up to the foyer, crowding it completely only then to have to wait 10-15 minutes before the doors to the Theatre were opened.
