The Beehive mood has changed. Last week's buoyancy has been replaced by a much more sober assessment of what the Mid East war is going to mean for NZ. buff.ly/SIPhMcE

@carlworker I cover a lot of NZ First meetings though I wasn't at this one. The age thing is a myth. Most of his supporters are provincial tradies in their 30s and 40s, many Maori. NZ First is a provincial party.

@POLITIKwebsite Interesting. Perhaps not too surprising given the general quality of the main party offerings. But not much sign of a big change in the demographics. An ageing society works in his favour.

This would be much more credible and creditable if NZ had also condemned the illegal US/Israeli armed attack on Iran in the first place. Only condemning the retaliation looks cowardly and unprincipled. Fuel prices would not have risen in this way if the US and Israel had not suddenly launched a war against Iran in the middle of negotiations. That does not excuse Iran’s retaliation but it certainly explains it. NZ’s reputation in the world is suffering badly under this clueless government that only does what is expedient.
Christopher Luxon@chrisluxonmp

Attacks on fuel tankers and energy infrastructure in the Middle East are leading directly to higher fuel prices for Kiwis. That’s why we have joined the United Kingdom and other countries in condemning Iran’s attacks in the Gulf. Iran has forced the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz to ships carrying fuel and other critical goods to places like New Zealand. New Zealand has a longstanding record of working with like-minded partners to ensure open supply lines for global trade. Obviously, any future decision for New Zealand to support multilateral efforts to ensure safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz would need to be considered by Cabinet.

@carlworker Becaue of the rundown of our navy there's no chance it could foot it in the Hormuz Strait. The Australians are candid that their ANZAC frigates would be useless.

“Obviously, any future decision for New Zealand to support multilateral efforts to ensure safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz would need to be considered by Cabinet.” Comment: It’s completely batty and irresponsible for our leader to be effectively foreshadowing a NZ contribution to an armada to try and force open the Strait of Hormuz. It is pure vainglorious grandstanding. He really needs to grow up.

One of the most difficult issues the Government faces over its RMA reforms is what to do about the Treaty of Waitangi. Not just Māori but also local government is critical of the way Bishop's legislation deals with it. buff.ly/9AtW1mS

@Coltheman1 @sunshinehaze1 I produced Agenda from when we started it in 2004 then The Nation (which we also started in 2010) and PMs rarely appeared on either. Key did not appear on The Nation at all. You don't need them if you are trying to break news which we were.

@sunshinehaze1 Ardern started this crap of not being accountable and picking and choosing when and where she will appear. She would only give QandA two interviews a year at her place of choosing and all questions had to be submitted a week before. Clark refused to debate with Shipley on tv

Luxon said on RNZ he doesn't rate Q&A to appear because of the size of the audience. He said it's only about 100k people who watch. Imagine just discarding a portion of the voters like that. He probably thinks we are all bottom feeders.

Has Luxon spoken today to all his Ministers. Heather plessis-Allen: What are your ministers telling you? Are any of them telling you to consider your future? Luxon: No, no. Heather: Not at all? Are any of them telling you that they back you? Luxon All of them? Yes.

@bustedblonde Whenever a leader is in trouble the party faithful always blame the media. They did it with Muldoon, Lange, and Bolger. The faithful are the last to admit there is a problem.

One think I can say about the room full of Wairarapa leaders, business people and farmers is the conversation always came back to the state of the NZ media. As one bloke said . "Luxon is really good bloke, and it was a great speech highlighting what the govt had done and what the benefits were. If you read the paper or watch tele you would think its a different person!" Well said that man . Spot on. #nzpol @theplatform_nz

NZ is no longer an export powerhouse; it has fallen well behind other small advanced economies on most economic indicators and a top internaitonal economist has told Treasury it is now time for the Gvt to go back to picking winners. buff.ly/V4Ei5FC

The EU is beginning to talk to NZ about a defence and security agreement which would underpin what the EU’s Ambassador Lawrence Meredith, calls a “new reality” which really means a third foreign policy option apart from the US and China. buff.ly/mqJkdfH
