🇺🇸 The AI gold rush just claimed 40,000 acres of Utah.
Box Elder County just approved a massive AI data center next to the already shrinking Great Salt Lake. Hundreds showed up to fight it. Commissioners walked into a back room and approved it on a livestream anyway.
The project is backed by Shark Tank's Kevin O'Leary and would burn through more than double the energy the entire state of Utah uses in a year.
Locals have filed to put it to a vote in November, but need 5,000+ signatures to get the referendum on the ballot.
O'Leary on environmental concerns about the lake?
"Ridiculous."
They watched it get approved on a screen.
