PPB Central Precinct

Good Saturday afternoon! PPB is monitoring some large groups coming together in the South Portland Neighborhood. We have Liaison Officers (white uniforms) and bike teams there to help facilitate public safety for all. We'll share public safety messages here, so please follow!

@portlandpolice officers trained in crisis communications, assisted by @PDXFire, talk to a man in crisis threatening to hang himself from the Steel Bridge. After talking to officers, he agreed to come back over the railing and get help. Excellent work!

Thank goodness no one was hurt in this NW 4/W. Burnside crash at about 1:30p today. This vehicle crashed into a light pole and caused a mess. Officers assisted with info exchange. Preliminary information is the vehicle had a malfunction that caused the crash.

Good afternoon! As anticipated, we are seeing large crowds at Pioneer Courthouse Square today. Officers are on hand, including our Dialogue Officers, to help facilitate a safe event for everyone. A march has just begun and we're helping with traffic control on SW Broadway now.

Good afternoon! As expected, we are seeing large gatherings today in Portland. PPB Dialogue Officers in white uniform shirts are serving as a content-neutral points of contact for participants. Also, officers on bikes, motorcycles, and in cars are on hand to ensure safety.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning continues for Gresham OR, Camas WA and Troutdale OR until 5:00 PM PST

Some local students who are blind visited Central Precinct this week. We were happy to provide a tour and answer questions from the curious bunch.

@multco @multco reports that the Hawthorne Bridge is open now. We appreciate working with our partners to safely resolve this situation and the patience of our community.

The man finally agreed to come down and he was taken into custody. @multco is working on verifying the bridge is safe and we hope to get it open soon.

@PortlandPolice and @PDXFire are negotiating with a man who climbed the truss structure of the Hawthorne Bridge. All traffic is closed while we work to resolve the situation safely with specially trained communication officers. We appreciate everyone’s patience!

Looks like a mid day break in the action! Appreciate our coworkers over @PBOTinfo who have been out all day working on the roads, wet slushy mix on SW Second Ave downtown. No significant traffic crashes within the city at this time.
