As an older Gen-Z I've watched the rapid shift even within MY adult life. I graduated HS in 2018, could afford a studio apt working as a hostess, good used car, saw big bands for $25 GA floor, etc. Even after my son was born I had a cute 3bd/1ba HOUSE for $850 in the city.

@ruima my six year old and I have been working on squares, multiplication, types of numbers (integers, fractions, infinity, negatives, etc), systems etc and he loves it! we do the same with trying to get him to understand what it MEANS, not just memorization. and he's EXCITED for math!!

Someone I know decided to forego a top NYC private school because they only start teaching multiplication in the fourth grade
My kid is on the Chinese math curriculum :) the demonization of mathematical fluency in the U.S. is insane. Yes I would call it demonization. I focus on systems thinking instead of pure arithmetic (eg I try to have the toddler really understand that 3x3 is 3+3+3 and figure it out for themselves what it all means) and we use Chinese math workbooks to supplement. They love it and are always clamoring to do Aoshu (Math Olympiad, but realistically at age 3 just basic arithmetic, addition / subtraction within 20 I would say)
