Full steam ahead! Portishead Railway Line gets final green light! 🚂 After 25 years of campaigning and 60 years of waiting, the Secretary of State for Transport has given the final sign-off on the Portishead and Pill Railway Line with trains projected to run by 2027.

While I have lobbied hard for this project, it would not be proceeding without the tenacity of the Portishead Railway Group and local supporters who have fought for this for 25 years.

@PTAJones @Inteprid_ @PolitlcsUK Unfortunately I think so, it's frustrating because the geography of the region means the cost of a feasible transport system is gonna be greater than that of say teesside or Liverpool whom both got greater sums of money despite similiar size. Consider WECA defacto covers NS too

@SamBarnesNS @Inteprid_ @PolitlcsUK Actually I’ve probably misunderstood this - it’s the business case approval we’re waiting for and not the funding. And it seems this approval isn’t due until July.

@Inteprid_ @PolitlcsUK Rather disappointing as well, as we have a really poor transport network round here. My only guess is that they're not including the existing money they received for portishead/pill railway but even that's only an extra 30 or so million. We're also larger by population...
