Q: How are job postings for software engineers rising rapidly despite AI agents automating coding? A: Because there’s far more code to manage than ever before. We’re already seeing a 14x YoY increase in GitHub commits, and it’s accelerating. AI has dramatically lowered the cost of writing code, so it’s now being used across far more businesses, applications, and use cases. We’re at the beginning of a massive productivity boom driven by the proliferation of bespoke software throughout the entire economy. Coding has been AI’s breakout use case this year. The fact that it’s increased demand for software engineers — rather than decreased it — should call into question the entire “AI will cause mass job loss” narrative.

In his first encyclical, Pope Leo XIV called for artificial intelligence “to be disarmed,” a word choice he called “strong” but “deliberately chosen.” “This moment needs words capable of attracting attention,” Leo said. Leo’s first encyclical, “Magnifica Humanitas,” has been highly anticipated since early in his papacy, when he declared AI the biggest challenge facing humanity. An encyclical in Catholicism is a letter written by the pope to the church, often detailing matters of morality and social issues. Leo noted that artificial intelligence is dramatically changing how war is waged, citing autonomous weapons systems operating “beyond human reach.” He also mentioned algorithms that can block access to healthcare and employment. “Let’s not fear artificial intelligence but constantly keep the question of the human in play. We cannot be careless with our most powerful technical instruments," he said.

“We will have a crash, I just can't tell you when, and I can't tell you how deep. But I can assure you, unfortunately, I wish I wasn't saying this, we will have a crash,” says Andrew Ross Sorkin, financial journalist and author of “1929.”

The mood inside Canada and the mood about the world are moving in opposite directions. 🇨🇦 47% say Canada is headed in the right direction 🌎 76% say the world is on the wrong track 🇺🇸 80% say the U.S. is on the wrong track That gap has widened sharply since Trump returned and Carney became PM. Hey @Sportsnet - suggestion for you: switch Joe Siddall with Caleb Joseph. Caleb would be much better as colour commentator and Joe was a fine partner for Jamie in the studio. Much better fit!

This is legit hilarious in that there is a large community of real people, with substantive arguments and concerns, opposing airport expansion, while the main voices of support are PCPO politicians, lobbyists, and anonymous reply guys like ‘Robert Cowboy’.

The head of the Toronto Port Authority says the expansion plan for Billy Bishop may be another year away and cost $5 billion. Those details came late in a committee hearing on Bill 110 that allows the Ford government to bump Toronto out of the deal governing the island airport

Looting public funds to pay off allies and henchmen is a naked abuse of power, but doing it to precisely the tune of 1.776 billion dollars is a brazen civic blasphemy. #section-130294599" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">nytimes.com/live/2026/05/1…
