@CoachShiffman I disagree, a lot of us have spent countless hours together with a common goal of success for the whole. You build relationships that will never end, much like family. When one of those coaches calls me “brother” it’s recognition that we are still part of the same family.

If a coach refers to you as “brother” he; A. Hasn’t talked to you in a while B. Is commiserating about bad news C. Is looking for help It’s just the way of the world

@DaChicagoBadger More and more guys are leaving college ball for the NFL, the transfer portal and NIL have made it less appealing to coaches that have opportunities at both levels.

@COACHJEDKENNEDY @BettingOnX Probably just the feigned excitement over those guys to the press. I remember when Caleb Williams was attached to the Badgers in the transfer portal for about 1.2 seconds. Reality Locke was the 28th rank QB in the portal. Evers was the one I think they had high hopes for.

@PWellsmith @BettingOnX Got who he wanted or got the best that was left? Programs are dropping 1 to 1.5 mil on qbs in NIL… if you aren’t winning the NIL battle , you certainly aren’t winning the “get who you want battle”

The victory lapping here is bizarre. So many of the older Wisconsin beat writers rooted against Fickell/Longo from Day 1. Sure, the Air Raid probably isn't for us...but no system will be successful without good quarterback play against the caliber of teams we're up against.

@PetePiranio @TomOatesWSJ Wisconsin is a recruit & develop program, I don’t see how that changes unless they can over compete in NIL. They’re never going to out recruit OSU, UM, USC, PSU. They struggle to compete with NEB, Iowa, MSU, UWash, & now IU. Agree/disagree, facts, not sure how Fick changes that.

@PWellsmith @TomOatesWSJ He was brought in to change that. I just disagree with the settle mentality about “what we can get.” Drives me nuts. I think Fickell is trending in the right direction with changing this. He’s built a solid recruiting dept and already shown he can recruit at a higher level.

Wow. Phil Longo has been fired as #Badgers offensive coordinator. Never seemed to be on the same page as Luke Fickell, especially as the Air Raid offense showed itself to be a poor fit for Wisconsin.

@PetePiranio @TomOatesWSJ Recruiting is a huge aspect of what teams can do schematically, UW ran a heavy run game offense because they could recruit/develop OL and RBs. They could build a defense to back that offense. As good of Program builder that Fickell is, he will be limited at UW with who he can get

@PetePiranio @TomOatesWSJ There are a bunch of teams that run spread offenses with success in the Big 10. There’s schemes within scheme though. Longo’s scheme didnt work in the 20+ games at UW. We can have opinions on why it didn’t work, but the admin at UW decided it was best to go a different direction

@LucasAtLarge Fickell isn’t going anywhere, too much guaranteed money that UW can’t afford paying out. I am surprised if Fickell made this move on his own accord though. Longo is good coach, poor fit at Wisconsin. It’s also nice to see that Fickell still runs Leonhard’s defense though.

Who fires a coach on Sunday during the season? Oh, wait, this is the 'new and different' Wisconsin. Square peg (Air Raid-Phi Longo) meet round hole (traditional UW model). The Badgers have been operating out of a hole since this was sold to the fan base under guise of evolving.

Incredible growth and dedication throughout his 4 years as a Lancer. Kyle grew into one of the best interior linemen to ever do it in this program. Kyle is proof doing things the right way pays off.

@wifca The district model made sense. Know exactly where you stand. Districts of 8 top 4 go to playoffs vrs another districts and so on and bottom 4 play bottom 4 week 9. Still get a non district game for rival or whoever. Shuffle districts every 2 yrs.
