The government of #Uganda has announced an outbreak of the Sudan #Ebola virus. Tragically, a 32-year-old nurse has died. A full scale response is being initiated by the government and partners. @WHO is supporting the government through our country office and our emergencies programme. We have made an initial allocation of $1 million from the Contingency Fund for Emergencies.

To mark the passing of former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, I wrote a piece on "Carterpuri", a small village near Gurgaon that I used to pass by daily on my way to school—my journey to uncover the story behind its name, the man it commemorates, and its relevance in present-day international development and global health. My tribute differs from the many honoring his contributions to global health. It explores the lesser-known story of how a village came to bear his name and why that story still matters today. @CFR_org @ThinkGlobalHlth @CarterCenter #jimmycarter #tribute #carterpuri #village #globaldevelopment #cooperation thinkglobalhealth.org/article/carter…

In this piece, we argue that a human-centered approach to health workers and their measurement is essential to achieving global health goals - with key lessons learned from the World Bank's Service Delivery Indicators Survey. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Our mission to negotiate the release of @UN staff detainees and to assess the health and humanitarian situation in #Yemen concluded today. We continue to call for the detainees' immediate release. As we were about to board our flight from Sana’a, about two hours ago, the airport came under aerial bombardment. One of our plane’s crew members was injured. At least two people were reported killed at the airport. The air traffic control tower, the departure lounge — just a few meters from where we were — and the runway were damaged. We will need to wait for the damage to the airport to be repaired before we can leave. My UN and @WHO colleagues and I are safe. Our heartfelt condolences to the families whose loved ones lost their lives in the attack.

People often assume that capitalist globalization is closing the wage gap between workers in the global North and global South. But it's not happening. In fact, the North-South wage gap is *increasing*.

Thank you for the opportunity to offer some reflections on our @HHS_Global journey these past 4 years. It's really the shared result of #globalhealth security over decades, a legacy on which I hope we all continue to build.

Lebanon: Attacks near Beirut destroyed a @UNFPA-supported safe space for women & girls. Such spaces provide refuge amid a heightened risk of gender-based violence caused by the conflict. Strikes on civilians & civilian infrastructure must end.

Almost everyone in #Gaza is going hungry according to the latest assessment. This is inhumane. @WHO calls for immediate access for all humanitarian aid, starting with food and medicine for severely malnourished children, who need to be treated urgently. WHO continues to call for a ceasefire. The best medicine is peace.
