Let me remind you of the stupidities they had shown us in the YRF produced Aamir Khan-starrer Fanaa. Partly because I rewatched it recently and partly because I need to vent out after losing my braincells watching it. Firstly, let's ignore the 45-minutes long premise with useless romance and cheesy poetry, and dive straight into the plot (or lack thereof). Aamir Khan is introduced as a terrorist mastermind who has single-handedly upgraded his terrorist organisation Independent Kashmir Front (IKF) to the level of CIA, KGB and Mossad. (Yes, they said that). Now, IKF wants an independent Kashmir and, therefore, it has carried out bomb blasts in Bombay, Islamabad, Indian Parliament building and Karachi refinery. Now, to imagine a terrorist organisation that has carried out terror attacks in both Bombay and Islamabad already requires your IQ to be in the negative, but it doesn't end there. The same organisation has also done bomb blasts in Bali, Madrid, New York and Oklahoma City. Why? It's for you to figure out. Then, in the same meeting, they reveal to the audience that this organisation has stolen parts from Pakistan, India and Russia and joined them together to create a nuclear weapon, because that's totally how nuclear weapons are made. And, on top of it, they have made the nuclear weapon but they need a trigger to set it off. Where is that trigger? You guessed it. It's with the Indian Army! 6 of these triggers, whatever they are, are in 6 secret army locations across India and the terrorist organisation needs one of them to set off the nuclear weapon that they had made. Yes. You feel helpless? So did I. And then came the golden moment of the movie that made watching the whole experience worth it. After this brilliant explanation about this nuclear weapon, the head of the "Anti-Terrorist Agency" says to his junior: "Call the Defence Minister of Pakistan, I want to share this information with him". Can you believe it? No? Go and watch the film. Then another 45-minutes of songs and romance later, they show Aamir Khan killing Captain Ranjeev of the Indian Army, wearing his uniform, and joining his unit as if entering an Indian Army camp impersonating an officer is like strolling in a park. Obviously, none of Captain Rajeev's juniors, seniors and colleagues know what he looks like, and he is tasked with the most important mission. What is that mission? You guessed it. Transporting that trigger back to Delhi! Aaaaand he steals it. In the climax, he reveals to Kajol and her father that his real name is not Captain Ranjeev, it is Rehaan, he is a Kashmiri, and he is on a secret mission that he cannot tell anyone about. And Kajol's dad, instead of asking what is Rehaan doing in Captain Ranjeev's uniform and what is this secret mission that he cannot tell anyone about, marries his daughter off to this guy once again. And then we obviously have another song. It happened for the first time that I knew less about how the world works after watching this film than what I had known before. And YRF's Alpha might be stupid but I don't think they can top their own masterpiece. The bar is really high.
