We have released updated .deb packages to resolve this issue.
People who would rather not upgrade can add the following line to /etc/pagekite.d/20_frontends.rc:
ca_certs=/etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt
Users of current `pagekite.py` bundles were not effected.

I'm experimenting with using Svarbox (a customer-support chat tool) by @ISNIC, on the pagekite.net website.
Surprise benefit: Now I feel productive and hard-working, no matter what I do on my laptop (as long as I'm logged in to the chat)!

PSA: If your PageKites aren't working, it is almost certainly not your fault!
We messed up and shipped a nasty bug; you will need to upgrade or reconfigure.

We have updated the blog post with a complete description of what went wrong and what we're doing about it.
The tl;dr: people need to update their pagekite.py or make a minor configuration change to get their kites back in the air.

If you using PageKite for anything even modestly bandwidth intensive, you definitely want to upgrade.

In other news, I've spent the last few days bug-hunting and optimizing the Python #PageKite code. Picked some low and medium hanging fruit. Preliminary results: 10x less CPU, 10x faster downloads, lower latency, pypy no longer crashes... Should I be ashamed of the bugs? Naaaah.

Our credit card payment processor, DalPay, is currently unable to process payments for us. They warn us this may become permanent.
It will take us a little while to find a replacement; in the meantime we plan to disable subscription time limits.
