So it has sadly come to my attention that a senior white male legal scholar wrote a paper in November 2024 and published it January 29 2025 on SSRN using the term and theory I coined in my book "Carceral Apartheid" without any citation or attribution to my work of over a decade, which is very well-known. I promptly wrote the senior scholar an email asking why....

Wondering whether there are people on here who participated in a Jena protest in 2007 or went to Jena. Or Black people aged 30+ who don't remember Jena. (Protest was overwhelmingly Black.) Trying to decide whether worth the trouble to get IRB approval for an online survey.

@profsamperry Didn't read your post yesterday, but this morning in my very liberal church where it was presumed people were grieving the election although all references were indirect, I thought about how uncomfortable someone who supported Trump would be there.

@xriskology Not arguing with critique of journals but suggesting you post preprint to SocArXiv osf.io/preprints/soca… in addition to or instead of SSRN. Posting a preprint while wading through the peer review process gets you cited earlier and also increases citations to later pub.

I sent a paper of mine to an Oxford philosophy prof earlier this year, and he *loved it*. Told me I should submit it without edits, and that he'd be citing it in future papers of his. So, I submitted to an ethics journal -- desk rejection. I submitted it to another journal, and

@ewrigleyfield @MichaelSLinden I agree about genocide being bad, I don't think that is the reason that the accomplishments of the Biden administration are not getting much news attention. It does not explain why the achievements before a year ago were also underplayed.

Obviously, I'm somewhat biased, but there have been numerous instances over the past four years of the Biden Administration getting hard things done and fixing problems quickly and efficiently with almost no credit. This is the latest example.

The ability of the Biden Administration to get the Port of Baltimore fully open *within 3 months* of the complete collapse of a critical piece of infrastructure is truly a feat of public administration. defense.gov/News/News-Stor….

@raulpacheco 1) some edited volumes are highly influential, major impacts on the field. 2) some edited volumes are scams. Or not exactly scams, but people twisting the arms of their friends to produce a product that mostly benefits publishers and editors. Both are true.

Some people seem to dislike edited volumes (generally speaking). But one advantage they have that I believe is often overlooked is that edited volumes offer different authors' viewpoints on stuff that would seem "generally agreed upon". This diversity of viewpoints is enriching
