@Bongo_Bart @RonniSalt Right! And what is there incentive to speak out? Loosing their jobs, loosing their research grants, being ostracized.

I find this very difficult to cope with. The climate is going haywire all over the planet, records falling all over the place, and neither the media or public are acting like this is happening. It’s like being in the Twilight Zone or in some other dimension. Do you all not want to survive? #ClimateEmergency

Harrowing video has captured the apocalyptic conditions in Wanneroo, after fires broke out across many north-eastern Perth metro areas. Firefighters are battling blazes on multiple fronts after an unprecedented spring heatwave stretched into its third day.

That’s what happens when we add ~80m additional people to the planet each year. The equivalent of 10 NYC’s or 1 Germany, each year. Guess what we are scheduled to do next year? Same thing. 2025? Same thing. See a pattern? We should not be surprised by nature dwindling.
Dr. William J. Ripple@WilliamJRipple

NATURE IS DWINDLING: A diverse set of mammals once roamed the planet. This changed dramatically with the arrival of humans. Since then, wild land mammal biomass has declined by ~ 85%. Humans & their livestock are now dominant.

@JKSteinberger What I’m curious about is that the US Government also knew this clearly since the 1960s and also did nothing with governmental regulations. Can the government also be sued for dereliction of duty and be required to levy taxes that should have been levied to pay for clean up, etc

🤯🤯🤯 According to the fossil fuel industry, the impact of fossil fuel use on has been "open and obvious" for decades - which is why they should suffer no legal liability for their decades of industrial disinformation. It sure is a marvel to see the devil's tongue twisting.
Dr. Genevieve Guenther (she/they) 🪬@DoctorVive

Here is fossil fuel companies' new defense in lawsuits accusing them of deceiving the public about climate change: They perpetrated no deception, they say, because the "alleged impact of fossil fuel use on the global climate has been ‘open and obvious’ for decades." 1/n

@JKSteinberger Thank you JKS for showing this slide. What kind of reaction did you get? Who is with you? I'm with you encouraging foundations to make bold moves and not rearrange deck chairs!

When my time is done on this Earth, I want it remembered that I had the guts to show this slide to a room filled with hundreds of people who work in or with philanthropic foundations.

@StablePlanetAll Let's take this ugly truth as a wake up call, to give their pain meaning, to remember that we are all inter-connected. We are starving and our homes are being reduced to rubble. Let's reduce our consumption and the number of humans driving that consumption. Dignity to all beings.

Our human legacy is scathing. How can any of us still believe in human supremacy or entitlement? These are our cousins. Shame on all of us.
Aida Greenbury@AidaGreenbury

The condition of #orangutans near coal mining areas in East Borneo is deplorable. They are skin and bones, starving after losing their homes and food sources. Economic development is fine, but economic development at the expense of the environment and other living things is not acceptable. #deforestation #AnimalCruelty

@geoffmcfarlan I'm reminded of a game called Squares. You get your piece of the puzzle together and wonder why the others are having trouble. They need a piece of your puzzle, you have the wrong combination! Let's not sit back and be smug!

@BarnardPhoebe @StablePlanetAll Congrats Bill, you have pulled many knowledge sources together in this article and packed a punch. Undeniably, as we face reality, we've got a lot of community soul-searching to do about communicating our predicament and taking immediate action to soften the fall-not prevention.

@BarnardPhoebe @postcarbonsteve Loosing dear things and people to weather? Get used to it, we've created it. Help us by being mindful of how much you consume, how small your family is, how much you travel, and who you vote for most of all. Stand up to our consumer society. It is killing us.

@BarnardPhoebe This is one really good use of the internet, smart phones. Registered voters of a country can easily register their perspectives through on-line apps. I believe one (some) of the Scandinavian countries already take the pulse of their country this way.
