When students can’t find the "main idea", the problem is almost never a missing strategy.

I want to drop-ship @C_Hendrick's latest onto every elementary school teacher's desk. "In education, the idea that reading comprehension is a teachable, generic skill that can be applied to any given text is an error, but a natural one, which is partly what made it so durable. We observed what comprehension failure looked like: students who could not identify the main idea, who could not draw inferences, who could not synthesise information across paragraphs. And then we did something that felt entirely logical but was, in retrospect, a category error: we turned the description of the failure into the curriculum. We taught “main idea” identification, inferencing, synthesis etc. We built an entire instructional architecture from the symptoms of the problem rather than from its cause. The description of what students could not do was mistaken for an explanation of why they could not do it."

Group work usually ends with the student who knows the least learning nothing, and the student who knows the most doing everything.

You think the greatest privilege you can give your kids is a big house, a good school and a trust fund. You're wrong. It's a mom and dad who stay married. No amount of co-parenting or "quality time every other weekend" replicates what a child gets from watching their parents build a life together. This isn't popular. But it's true.

Many college professors are discovering that students learn less when they have laptops open. Many of us are banning their use in class. Putting computers and tablets on students desks in K-12 may turn out to be among the costliest mistakes in the history of education

The U.S. spent $30 billion to ditch textbooks for laptops and tablets in classrooms. The result: Gen Z is the first generation to score lower on standardized tests than their parents. fortune.com/2026/02/21/lap…

Do people with ring cameras not check video overnight every day? I check my video overnight for anything suspicious daily. I do have crazy neighbors but it seems strange that neighbors of Nancy Guthrie are not starting to check cameras.

OH MY GOSH! The House passed the SAVE America Act 218-213. This bipartisan legislation has support from 83% of Americans. It’s time to bring the SAVE America Act to the Senate floor for debate!
