One of my dreams has been that our students compete with the best in the world. So proud that Jags @the_rarejm from our lab @IITKanpur, is featured amongst the best in the global cohort of PhD students competing for the International Birnstiel Award based on their PhD work😎!

This 15-year-old girl lived in the Inca empire and was sacrificed 500 years ago as an offering to the gods. She is preserved this well because she was frozen during sleep and kept in a dry cold condition at more than 6000 meters above sea level all this time. No other treatment was necessary. Found in 1999 near the top of the Llullaillaco volcano, in northwestern Argentina, she was an archaeological revolution for being one of the best preserved mummies, since there was even blood in her body and her internal organs remained.

As a graduate student, learn to communicate your science effectively! The key is to practice, practice again, and then practice some more! Nobody becomes a master speaker on day one - most of us have learnt it over time and still learning! Be confident and believe in yourself!

If you are a PhD student, don’t let a failed experiment or a bad experience dampen your enthusiasm and motivation! There might be some hiccups in your journey but keep your dreams alive! If you are patient, dedicated, and determined, there is no hurdle that is insurmountable!
