I can relate to this. Growing up, I was a die hard Ronaldo fan. In fact, I was the only Ronaldo supporter in my house my dad and all my siblings were Messi fans. I still remember crying after the 2009 Champions League final when Barcelona beat Manchester United because I wanted Ronaldo to win so badly. But as I grew older and started understanding football beyond emotions and fan loyalty, my perspective changed. I began to appreciate the game differently, and that's when I realized Messi's level was simply something else. That doesn't take anything away from Ronaldo he's one of the greatest players to ever play the game, and his impact on football is undeniable. But for me, Messi is the better footballer. Supporting Ronaldo as a kid doesn't mean I have to ignore what I believe now. Sometimes, growing up means accepting the truth as you see it, even if it goes against who you once supported.

The development comes days after reports alleged that the 25-year-old doctor repeatedly sought a three-week sick leave but was initially denied, before his eventual demise. A query dated June 10, 2026, accused the corps member of “absenting yourself from Tuesday’s evening games,” describing the action as “disobedience to the hospital’s rules and regulations.” The letter further stated that his conduct reflected negatively on his discipline and ordered him to submit a written explanation in six copies on why disciplinary action should not be taken against him. In his handwritten response, Dr. Enakirerhi apologised for missing the games but explained that his absence was due to deteriorating health rather than disregard for hospital regulations. He disclosed that he had recently developed multiple medical conditions, including chronic right lower limb neuropathic pain, dyspnoea on mild exertion, palpitations, chest pain, and had also experienced a febrile illness with temperatures above 39°C. He wrote that participating in strenuous physical activities could have worsened his condition and appealed for understanding. “My non-participation has not been due to a lack of commitment or disregard to hospital rules/regulations but was unfortunately necessitated by ongoing health challenges.” He added, “My absence from the games was not due to disregard for the hospital’s rules but was driven to safeguard my fragile health and prevent any potential medical complications.” As at the time of filing this report, neither NYSC nor  Military Hospital Port Harcourt has made an official statement about the incident.
