Did you know? Ghana 🇬🇭 was the first sub-Saharan African country to gain independence in 1957.

The U.N. General Assembly has adopted a draft resolution that unequivocally condemns the trafficking of enslaved Africans and the transatlantic slave trade as the most inhumane and enduring injustice against humanity. 123 in favour 3 Against (USA, Israel, Argentina) 52 abstentions The resolution also seeks to recognize the profound and lasting impacts of the abhorrent regimes of slavery and colonialism and emphasizes that claims for reparations represent a concrete step towards remedying historical wrongs against Africans and people of African descent. #sabcnews

@SaddickAdams Ghana got independence in 1957 thats over 69 years ago. The USA became a super power in that time. To date #Accra has not even a sewage treatment plant so effluent goes into the river Densu

“The entire transatlantic slave trade was designed to deny African people their humanity” - President John Dramani Mahama 🇬🇭

If you visit the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington DC, you’ll find this slave ship listed as part of the slave voyages.

Interesting detail here: The emblem in the background of the slave voyages list is an Akan symbol, often associated with the Ashanti. It shows how involved groups from present-day Ghana were in the slave trade.

“The weapon that has done the most for the conquest of Europe, for its colonization by Africa, for its Islamization, for the destruction of Europeans in Europe, for genocide by substitution, more than family reunification, more than widespread nocence, more than the migratory submersion itself, is the accusation of racism. It has paralyzed three hundred million people and made them accept the unacceptable, the worst that could happen to them: their own annihilation, their erasure as a civilization.” [March 25, 2019]
