Spiritual amnesia is not a small issue. When we forget who God is and what He has done, the heart does not stay neutral, it drifts. Scripture warns this clearly. “Beware that you do not forget the Lord… who brought you out” (Deuteronomy 6:12). Forgetfulness leads to distance, and distance opens the door to turning away. That is why remembering is commanded. “Bless the Lord… and forget none of His benefits” (Psalm 103:2). When God’s saving work is kept before us, it anchors us. Apostasy does not begin with open denial. It begins with quiet neglect. “Take care… that there not be in any one of us an evil, unbelieving heart that falls away from the living God” (Hebrews 3:12). So we fight forgetfulness by staying rooted in His Word and continually bringing His work to mind. Because when we forget Him, we will not stay where we are. We will drift.
