Genesis 10 is called the Table of Nations. It traces the descendants of Noah's three sons across the known world after the flood. Shem, Ham, and Japheth populated three continents. Every nation mentioned in the rest of Scripture traces its origin back to this chapter.

@JoshuaBarzon When I began my first pastorate back in 1985, I almost immediately launched into a Sunday evening sermon series through the Book of Genesis. I’m glad I did it. Unfortunately, all my handwritten sermon notes were destroyed in a house fire 4 years later. 😢

Genesis covers more ground than any other book in the Bible. Creation, the fall, the flood, Babel, and the entire patriarchal line from Adam to Jacob in 50 chapters. Every major theological theme in Scripture has its roots here. If you want to understand the rest of the Bible, start here and go slowly.

which one do you pick to live in forever?

@miles_commodore When I was a kid, I daily read the Knoxville (Tennessee) News-Sentinel and I watched the CBS Evening News with Walter Cronkite. I was neither encouraged nor discouraged to do so by my parents. But it was a great education. But I wouldn’t let a kid watch or read the news today.

When I was a kid my parents had me read the New York Times to help grow my vocabulary. Looking back on it now someone should have called social services on them.

@StatisticUrban First and foremost, it was considered proper and dignified apparel. Polite society then had a sense of decorum that has long vanished. Secondly, at one time, some folks actually thought wearing long sleeves and jackets helped to keep the heat OUT. 🤷‍♂️

It feels truly insane to me that people used to wear full-length cotton suit jackets and dress pants at all times. This is Manhattan in the height of summer, late June 1936! And these are factory workers!
