Tonight’s PCSP Glenavy meeting - Violence against women doesn’t happen in a vacuum. In a society where violence was normalised, glorified and too often justified, silence becomes survival and abuse thrives. We cannot build safety for women while still making excuses for violence.

As a member of the Planning Committee, I am delighted that the Planning Appeals Commission has ruled against the demolition of Hilden Mill and in favour of its retention. This is extremely welcome news. It is a positive outcome for our built heritage, and Hilden.

This morning, councillors, council officers local businesses and Police met to discuss serious concerns about ASB involving children as young as 8 gathering for arranged fights. Parents need to know where their children are otherwise, expect a knock on the door.

It’s great to be out with the local police, discussing the issues facing local businesses and the wider community. Seeing the work they’re doing to address these local concerns is really encouraging and important.

This state was designed so a nationalist could never hold the office of First Minister. History changed in 2024 when Michelle O’Neill became First Minister. The SDLP proposal today to abolish the First Minister title brings them alongside some of the most extreme voices in loyalism and unionism, who want to ensure no nationalist holds the position again. Incredible!
