@RefObserver17 Should have never changed the rule to have coaches calling timeouts. Everything related to rule changes should towards making the officials job easier not harder. Have players only calling TO's again.

This is not an excuse but there is so much going on at the end of these games, officials are focused on the court and can't hear anything. Have to be emphatic and get in SIGHT line of officials to get Timeouts acknowledged.

What Ben McCollum did there to get the opposite side official is what needs to be done at that stage in the game to get a timeout granted. Notice baseline and new lead official didn't see him. Have to VISUALLY get in sightline and EMPHATICALLY signal

@DaveShondell Or, call all of them and sit them down early and move to other players. It's the infamous "art" of officiating at it's finest.

Big Ten officials have let “bigs” beat each other up all season. Now in the biggest game of the season, Don Rickles and his two pals are going to start blowing their whistles on tricky-tack contact. Let the big boys play in the championship game.

@SethDavisHoops Horrible no call, happens a lot. Call the rule, like all rules should be called by the book. The game is not about fairness by rule any more, it's determined by the "art officiating" in today's game. The game is becoming more and more a sham for gambling.

@KGJoseph @RefObserver17 You are partially correct, the leadership is horrific. But that dynamic is helping create the shortage of officials that are in rotation to work games to provide fatigue (physical & mental) relief. Many officials today work WAY too many games to maintain sharpness.

@PatIABoiler @RefObserver17 There’s no shortage of officials there’s a lack of fair leadership and too much favoritism to a certain dynamic of people leaving a large group left out. Too much Good Ole boy network

I don't want to get into this any further but this Wisconsin-Illinois Quarterfinal has not been officiated at a high enough level. This is not an acceptable performance in my opinion. Their boss is in attendance as well.

@JRrews @RefObserver17 Huge shortage of officials at the D1 level. The current crop of officials are working WAY too many games day on day with no recovery time. Their physical and mental fatigue is ridiculous. There's not enough officials to "bench" the poor performers.

@PatIABoiler @RefObserver17 There is definitely not a shortage of officials. Not at that level, the high school level yes but they are not short at the college level.

@itsAntWright The crew not a good game, but nothing new for college officiating overall. The phantom foul calls are pretty atrocious, on top of missed legit fouls. Fans are cheated out of clean games to determine outcomes.

@RefObserver17 Putting myself in the C on press help coverage, I would be looking for possible contact on the double team. That is the "elephant" and the pivot foot is the "ant." It is a missed travel but I understand why.

@RefObserver17 This us what you get when college basketball is woefully under staffed with officials. The group that supposedly the best are actually some of the worst due to their art of officiating approach. Then they are over worked. The whole thing is at the point of collapse.

Three First Half Technical Fouls on Head Coaches in Desert Financial Arena tonight and none were on Bobby Hurley. Now that is an unexpected twist. Dog days of the season. Can almost taste March! Everyone, including officials, is tired, jet lagged and ready for the Tournament 👍🏻

@RefObserver17 This crew is the ultimate masters of the "art" of officiating. Ugly officiated game, nothing out of character for the makeup of this crew. NCAA has an officiating crisis but nobody cares, the game is too popular as is.

@CBB_Central Depends on what is perceived as "good" officiating. I agree with you, but the NCAA does not, the national leadership of officials wants/demands more "art" than calling the rules as written. Officials decide play by play whether a violation will be called or not, that's the art.

@itsAntWright Fans have been denied the real game of NCAA basketball by the rules committee with this in the rule book : 7. Enforce the rules – Finding a balance between the art and science of officiating. Officials determine every game with their "art" which varies call to call. Sad....

@RefObserver17 There was two fouls before the shot with defender hitting the dribblers arm, very light contact, but a foul by rule. It's even an intentional foul if the coach told me before the play "we are going to foul". It's not incidental if you told me your intent. To heck with "art".

If you are up 3 and are planning to foul, just know that opponents are going to heave anything. This will not be the last controversial continuous motion we see this year. I don’t like this one but there is no doubt that coaches strategy may change. You lose some control here

@RefObserver17 Chris Rastatter & NCAA have created a complete mess for officiating with point of emphasis: 7. Enforce the rules – Finding a balance between the art and science of officiating. Just stop at "Enforce the rules", no art needed fro each and every official on every call.

@itsAntWright Rule 4-15 article 2.c flagrant foul Unnecessary, excessive, avoidable contact. Judgement by the official(s) that this rule was violated. I can see it, but not always called, but likely should be more often to take some of the physicality out of today's game.

@dontejharvey There's a rule against it, but, like many others rules the officials never enforce it. It would stop if the game was played by the rules. NCAA to blame for not having the officials enforce the rules.
