Only 50k of the 750k who volunteered for Govts NHS volunteer scheme have been asked to do tasks. Hundreds of thousands of volunteers frustrated & vulnerable not getting help they need. Everything this Govt touches..,

@PatMGlass @UKLabour That's what happens when people don't vote Labour. We end up with another tory gov't. Next time, how many on the left will do the same. Like the millions of voters we lost under Blair.

It happened again today : walking my dog & stopped by an 80yr old man. Said he had never missed a vote & voted @UKLabour all his life. Did not vote in Dec 2020 cos he could not vote for Corbyn & Pidcock. Said he was deeply sad that we now have a Tory MP. Happens every day!

@lukey_stanger @UKLabour I am not going to comment on individuals but in my view we need to properly & honestly analyse what happened here in NWDurham in 2020 & start again from scratch if we are ever going to convince former Labour voters to vote for us again

@coyleneil There is a seriously hard job of work to do here to win back the seat of NWDurham to @UKLabour. We need a completely fresh start with none of the baggage from 2020 if former Labour voters are going to vote for us again

People who would normally back Labour who could not support us in December. Must never happen again. We can now rebuild under Keir but no one should be complacent about the depth of the challenge left behind by his predecessor and his off-putting outriders.

I’m now beyond furious. Weeks of meaningless negotiations. They told us we’d find out what support we’d get this Wednesday, then it’s Friday. Today they put out a press release saying we’ll get something but we’ll not be told what it is until next week. It’s complete contempt.

FT reporting that government announcement of bailout for Tyne and Wear Metro (@My_Metro) imminent although a suggestion here by @MartinGannon002 that it might not be the £10m Nexus asked for to help cover £900k-a-week losses: on.ft.com/2RXt10Z

@anthonypainter I believe in aspirational targets but they must be backed up with realistic milestones & both the will & the means to achieve them. They have to work & deliver the required outcomes not tests for the sake of tests or to save politicians blushes

Sad that this needs to be said, but in light of an orange, perennial populist, it does: PLEASE DO NOT DRINK OR INJECT DISINFECTANT, it will KILL YOU! External use is external use ONLY, your body is not a worktop!

You kept thinking that Trump couldn’t really be as stupid, dangerous & corrupt as he seemed because all of the people cheering him were looking at the *same* man. Even some previously sensible people. Classic Emperor’s New Clothes scenario. I still can’t get my head around it.

Clement Attlee on Building the 'New Jerusalem', 1951 "Let us go forward into this fight in the spirit of William Blake: "I will not cease from mental strife/Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand/Till we have built Jerusalem/In England's green and pleasant land". #StGeorgesDay

@George_Osborne It is too late for the Govt to try being straight with the public & having a proper, grown-up conversion. A failure to plan, incompetence, avoidance & down right lies has led to the loss of any trust in this Govts handling of the crisis, now or going forward
