I delivered a public address today at Oxford City Council in support of a motion condemning the illegal US-Israeli aggression against Iran and the Iranian people. I had to speak quickly just to stay within the five-minute limit. I found myself smiling more than I wanted to. I think it was a defence mechanism, a way of containing a much deeper collective anger. The motion was not put to a vote today, as this was a hearing. But the councillors expressed overwhelming solidarity. It was a reminder that this war serves the interests of a few, not the public.
