PLAYOFF SPOTS CLINCHED
It’s all settled in Pool B at the Scotties. Mostly.
Peterson. Black. And Sturmay are all into the playoffs. Their positioning still to be determined.
@Devin_Heroux 5 of 6 playoff spots may be decided with 4 draws to go. Opposite of what usually happens.
Campbell needs to beat Armstrong to stay alive tonight. Otherwise Armstrong-Stevens will be for last spot in Pool A
Here’s the scenario.
If Black, Sturmay and Peterson all win this afternoon, they’re all through to the playoffs in Pool B.
And all three of those teams are leading.
@Devin_Heroux Koe's only chance to get into the 3 seed is with a win, a Gushue loss, a Dunstone loss AND they have to somehow take LSD away from Gushue and Dunstone. On the ladies side, Lawes basically controls their own destiny, unless Black AND Brown BOTH win too, then Black gets 3rd.
And another update.
It’s been determined Jacobs has clinched FIRST PLACE and a spot in the best-of-three final.
There are no scenarios where Jacobs doesn’t finish first, including last stone draw.
@LiamBlack8@Devin_Heroux 1) Koe needs to win
2) Dunstone needs to lose (since Koe beat him)
3) Gushue needs to lose so we don't have three five win teams
In that scenario it's a three way tie and comes down to LSD, and Koe is worst of those three teams.
So he's not mathematically eliminated but close
Team Jacobs has not officially clinched a playoff spot at the Canadian Olympic Trials.
There are many scenarios where tiebreaker scenarios come down to last stone draw.
That said, Jacobs is in a strong position with the best draw shot numbers this week.
On the ice this morning in the men’s draw at the Olympic Curling Trials:
Dunstone (4-1) vs Jacobs (4-1)
Gushue (4-1) vs McEwen (3-2)
Koe (3-2) vs Epping (1-4)
Kleiter (1-4) vs McDonald (0-5)
Look at those records and you realize just how important these games are this morning.
@Devin_Heroux If I worked out right, Sturmay 1st for women. McMillan can still come 2nd with a win tonight. And between 1 and 3 other teams with 4 wins.
Calvert first in men (beat McDonald, only team that can tie.) McDonald 2nd with a win tonight. And we have 3 or 4 other teams with 4 wins.
High drama at the Olympic pre-trials in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, especially on the men's side.
With one round-robin game left, there are four teams tied at 4-2: Howard, Menard, Calvert, McDonald.
FIrst place goes directly to final, 2nd vs 3rd in the semifinal.
@Devin_Heroux Looks like Sturmay about to wrap up #1 for womens, up 9-2 after 7.
MacMillan started 4-0 and if they lose tonight may not even make the playoffs. Rough finish.
Good morning sports fans.
It's the final day of round robin play at the curling pre-trials in Wolfeville.
Top-three teams advance. First place goes directly to final. Two vs three in the semifinal. Should be a riveting day of curling to determine the playoff teams.
@JamieDenton4@Devin_Heroux The funniest was the second last day of the Scotties where the playoff teams were decided before the last game finished (Saskatchewan winning in an extra) and they never mentioned once until they showed standings and saw it was clinched.
@Devin_Heroux How come TSN never ever explains this during play at this spiel or any other?? They always ignore these scenarios. Every other sports focussed on these things… curling ignores it, seems like a real f u to viewers
Some considerations for Pool A:
If Gushue beats Dunstone likely standings:
Gushue
Epping
Dunstone
If Dunstone beats Gushue likely standings:
Dunstone
Gushue
Carruthers
LOOK AT THIS MESS IN POOL B
Only the top-three teams advance.
Pay attention to the LSD rankings as well in the final column. That might be a factor in determining playoff positioning.
@harrystark96@Devin_Heroux Obviously have to win.
Only other team they beat was Cameron so they will need them to win too.
Then they probably need Ontario to win so they don't tie with them.
That would make five 5-3 teams that all went 2-2 against each other. Then Last Rock will probably get Lawes in.
EINARSON WINS AGAIN
Team Einarson is finding ways to win folks. Clutch shot by Kerri to secure the victory.
Einarson moves to 5-2. Inglis drops to 5-2. And everything is getting wild in Pool B.
