Unlike in the early 20th century, oil and gas is no longer plentiful. The world's easily accessible oil and gas has been effectively used up. This is why oil and gas companies are now drilling in ever more far flung places (BPs latest project is 400km off the coast of Brazil).

Thatcher's attack on mineworkers, as well as the opening up of North Sea oil and gas has largely created the UK's current energy system. It's why most of us have a gas boiler in our home. But as with successive energy transitions, times are again changing.

Over the past three decades, an energy system that utilises sunlight and wind power has gone from being an aspiration, to a reality, to an unstoppable economic force This shows that a net zero economy isn't just a possibility, but a positive vision for the future we must pursue

From political advisor to MP to Secretary of State to LOTO to the backbenches to Energy Secretary once more - you can’t look at the last 3 decades of Labour and climate without running into Ed Miliband. Hear from the man himself about what has been and what is still to come. 👇
