@WarMonitor3 Well, for certain parochial definitions of "culture", maybe...

@JustAMomNamedMM Did both. I vote for the tattoo - way less expensive for all concerned. Although I do have memories that keep me way warmer than my tattoo.
English

@VelocityVe23 @latestincosmos My brane is still stuck in Copenhagen. I'd miss Erwin's cat if I left...
English

@PaulChefurka @latestincosmos Yes. If one subsribes to MWI theory with infinite expansion potential...it could be infinite in variety across the technological spectrum...
English

@ActisAndres It's also the only such excursion that humans have been around to experience. FAFO.

@VelocityVe23 Three anti-entropic forces in the universe: sunshine, gravity and love :-)
English

Of late my mind has been wandering on introspective awareness limitations affecting potential entropy thresholds within our universe...
Alas I have concluded that 'love' is a key propagation element that we should all try and seed more of.

Seize it.

@VelocityVe23 @latestincosmos There are probably a number of Liebig Limits that could trigger a die-off under the right circumstances.
English

@PaulChefurka @latestincosmos Plus, emerging civs might (through enthusiasm) pop their seams - co2, resource issues..to not then reach any notable level...

@iamAtheistGirl I wonder how I got to become a third-generation atheist, with two more generations coming up behind. Luckily you don't need to believe in a god to have kids.
English

@Barphbie0 Did you know it hurts to have beer come out your nose because you're laughing so hard? Well done!
English

@VelocityVe23 @latestincosmos I can see the attraction there. I prefer the CO2 explanation because it doesn't require any deliberate species-level action. Self-organized growth and carbon dependency do the heavy lifting. No global decisions required, just local choices to always give your kids a better life.
English

@PaulChefurka @latestincosmos Yeah. That's kind of terrifying... but I lean towards the 'dark forest' scenario instead... :)
English

@VelocityVe23 @latestincosmos IMO there are no civilizations anywhere in the universe that have ascended even to Type 1. Planetary climate change due to CO2 emissions truncates their development. This may explain Fermi's Paradox.
A further explanation of this thinking is posted at paulchefurka.ca/Fermi.html

I think a simulation could be run by a Type 3 civilization on the K scale.
A full 1-1 representation of their mapped universe.
Purpose: to identify branch point propogation on the waveform which leads to a catastrophe/hellscape to try and prevent it from happening across an infinite number of universes.
I've touched on this in detail in my replies with Grok.
English

@latestincosmos Nobody's running it. The simulation is a self-organizing system that is ipso facto indistinguishable from Reality™. I think Jean Baudrillard kicked it off.

@amazing_physics Helium. The major city/quasi-capital of Barsoom.

@evelyn__071 Do the exponentiation first. Then there are two methods. The first is to resolve the numerator by subtraction, then divide by the denominator. The other is to divide the denominator into each term in the numerator, then subtract.
