Search is full of ads and wrong answers. Every other email is an ad. Prime Video charges you and shows ads. Paramount? Ads. Peacock? YouTube? Hulu? Ads followed by more ads. Netflix full of ads. Meta and X, every other thing is an ad. Pinterest is nothing but ads. AI is in everything. AI finishes sentences incorrectly and won’t stop. AI reads your email and search history to target you with more ads. Every time you open an app or visit a site there’s an update making it worse. In a hurry? First, click here to agree to terms you don’t have time to read and must accept. You need an account to do that. Change your temporary password. Enter your 2FA code. Check your email and enter that code. Now use a passkey. Your password is too simple to remember. Change it. No, not like that. Now log on. Enter your 2FA code. Check your email for a code… Welcome back! We’ve updated our terms of service and privacy policy (you have none). Subscribe to the site. Subscribe to Netflix. Subscribe to toilet paper. Subscribe to these groceries. Pay a membership fee for the right to subscribe then tip your driver who delivers the subscriptions your membership lets you subscribe to. Time to work? We’ve got to update your laptop and will slow down everything you do until you agree to update. But first, click here to agree. Update installed — your laptop’s broken now. It doesn’t matter, since your boss just replaced you with AI. Go to your phone to complain on social media. Wait, your phone needs an update so we can add more AI. Click here. Oh sorry, your phone can’t handle this update. Now it’s useless. Go get the newest phone. Here’s a text from a friend, an email, a voice mail they left three days ago but you didn’t see until now because of sync problems with the cloud. It’s their GoFundMe. Their MLM. Their Patreon. Never mind, you didn’t respond to their text within 9 minutes and now you’re no longer friends. They blocked you. Make new friends. Download this app to find people in your area. In your neighborhood. On your street. Two doors down from you. Do you know this person yet, we think you’d get along. You need an account to use this app. That username is taken. Enter a password. Not that one, you used it on another site. You need to be connected to WiFi to download the app. Allow the app to connect to other devices on your network. Allow the app to access your contacts, know your precise location, store your credit card details. Oops, sorry, we got hacked now all that info is available on the web. There’s a class action suit. You can join. It’ll take a decade to get your $3.73 share of the ten billion settlement. We’ll send it via PayPal or deposit it to your bank, just tell us those details. Oh no, another hack. That info is circulating now, too. Here’s a spam call, a spam email, a spam text. Why are you angry? Why are you talking about getting rid of your phone? Why don’t you like AI, it lets us make all of this easier? Do you know how ridiculous that sounds? This is progress. You’ll be left behind. Do you want to be left behind? Do you???

We interrupt our usual programming for a wayyyy too long rant on media and broadcasting as everyone pontificates about the “FuTuRe Of MeDiA” amidst the TBPN acquisition and launch of MTS. There are too many people on the timeline who never coiled an XLR cable to cover a Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving while making minimum wage talking about the sacrifices and challenges needed to make good media and it really shows. I got news for Silicon Valley and Big Tech: media is hard! Being on camera is hard! TBPN succeeded bc they’re fantastic at it! I turned the MTS show on today, and within two minutes, the host yawned on camera. Sorry to put that guy on the Summerjam Screen, I'm sure he's very qualified, but in all my years around broadcasting (or just watching stuff), I've never seen that before. My guy, if 🫵YOU are bored of your content, how do you think the audience is expected to respond to that? I know news anchors who did a 4:30 morning show for nobody but truckers for years and never was there a single yawn on camera for the audience to see. Off camera? They were zombies, but when that red light turned on, they always locked in because there were thousands of people that'd love to have that position. The point of the 4:30 anchor and the success of TBPN's live stream is that they are always ON. There’s no special sauce. That's it. The secret is showing up every day, consistently in your content to build more trust with your audience every single day. So can we pump the brakes on all the "new media" talk when its v v v v clear everyone is just looking for the next big thing that helps them shill their own bags? "New Media" is the same as its always been. Be helpful. Be accurate. Be authentic. Be trustworthy. Be entertaining. ((If you're hot then you've really hit the jackpot. It is a visual medium after all.)) But more than anything, you have to always be ON or they'll turn you OFF for someone else.

The Onion has successfully acquired Alex Jones’ ‘Infowars’ after 17 months of legal battles and has debuted its new logo. It will be turned into a parody of itself, with the support of the Sandy Hook families. (variety.com/2026/digital/n…)

the ABS system sits at the vexed crossroads of several highly charged dynamics in our collective life. successful challenges (by your team) feel amazing, like a long-awaited blow against capricious and unearned authority; but the overall existence (and putative infallibility) of ABS inevitably ignites anxieties about the superfluity of human judgement. and yet, the challenge system relies on human hubris, intuition, boldness, and risk. it's a very compelling encounter between populism and the machine.

Barclays post DCD and Dallas Fed Events: Soundbites included: “powering isn’t just a constraint—it’s a wall!”; “gas supply is now more important than fiber”; “what power we thought we would get in one year will now take five years”; "we're also feeling the tightness in skilled labor, particularly plumbers, electricians, and mechanics"; and “data centers are now being treated like nuclear deployments”, with NIMBY (not-in-my-back-yard) resistance approaching BANANA (build absolutely nothing anywhere near anyone), with increasing calls for data center moratoriums"
